Formula 1 drivers love Suzuka – especially Sebastian Vettel. The German has won 4 times on the circuit, back in the Red Bull days. In fact, it had been he who had taken pole position here last time out in 2019, but unfortunately, he was unable to capitalize on it due to a poor start.
This time around, he’s highly unlikely to be getting anywhere near pole position, but that should not stop him from having a good weekend and enjoying himself. He might be ‘retiring’ at the end of the season, but the German would not mind returning to Suzuka for a one-off: “I don’t know, never say never. I mean it’s a great track for many reasons.”
He added: “Who knows what the future brings, I don’t know. Obviously, I love driving and I think around this track I always felt alive and the passion… feels alive, so we’ll see what kind of car in the future will come up.” In fact, Vettel even went as far as to say that ‘whoever is up there’ paid special attention to Suzuka.
Sebastian Vettel: ‘I will miss this track more than others’
As per Formula 1’s official website, Sebastian Vettel dished out copious amounts of praise for the track, even going so far as to suggest that it was made by the one(s) above: “I will [miss this track more than others] probably, yes. It’s just everything that is special around this place. Starting with the track, which I don’t know, it must have been designed by God, by the Gods.”
The four-time world champion said that he will dearly miss the Suzuka circuit: “I don’t know, whoever is up there or out there, had a touch on Suzuka, and then the fans put the icing on the cake in terms of atmosphere and passion. It makes us feel very, very special [and] definitely it will be missed.”
Fans were very pleased with Vettel’s declaration, and some were already nostalgic. He’s still undoubtedly one of the most popular drivers on the grid, even though his current situation at Aston Martin isn’t the best. The German may no longer feel as much love for the sport as he did before, but the fans still feel the love for him.
There will undoubtedly be more than a few tears shed when Sebastian Vettel leaves the sport. He is a legend of the sport. But with his recent admissions, he has also given some hope to people – that in the future, we might see him on the track again.
