Azerbaijan Grand Prix

The Azerbaijan Grand Prix in the Baku City Circuit is quickly approaching, and while the race is scheduled as a European GP, the timings for Formula 1 aficionados in Europe are subtly different than they have been used to due to the time difference.

The first Grand Prix in Baku was held for the first time in 2016. The race was renamed the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in 2017, and Daniel Ricciardo won ahead of Valtteri Bottas and then Williams driver Lance Stroll, while Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel engrossed in a titanic struggle behind the Safety Car.

Baku, which has 20 turns, integrates long straights with a highly technical middle sector, with cars creating space and making a short upsurge past the Baku Fortress Wall – the tightest part of any track on the Formula 1 calendar – and plenty of drivers have been nabbed out there in the past.

Timings for Azerbaijan Grand Prix

The unusual timings of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix are in stark contrast to the usual timings of the Grand Prixs held in Europe throughout the Formula One calendar like the Monaco Grand Prix, the Italian Grand Prix, the Austrian Grand Prix, the French Grand Prix, the Belgian Grand Prix and the Dutch Grand Prix.

The 2020 race was deferred in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, before being forced to cancel later that year. The 2021 Azerbaijan Grand Prix was the season’s sixth round.
