Former F1 champions and critics have praised the Scuderia for signing the 39-year-old. Now, famous F1 Presenter Will Buxton has highlighted the significance of Hamilton’s move to the Italian team.

The renowned F1 presenter reckoned that Lewis Hamilton‘s deal with Scuderia Ferrari was the biggest signing in the sport’s history. The 42-year-old admitted that there had been big moves in the past such as Alain Prost‘s switch from McLaren to Ferrari in 1990. However, Buxton affirmed that Hamilton’s move to Maranello was perhaps the most meaningful driver move in F1 history.

We’ve seen big-name moves before, of course, but few come close to being quite this meaningful.

Could Lewis Hamilton win an eighth F1 title with Ferrari

It is clear that Lewis Hamilton remains hungry for a record-breaking eighth F1 world championship. The British driver came close to claiming the historic title but was defeated by Max Verstappen at the infamous 2021 Abu Dhabi GP.

Hamilton struggled in the past two seasons as Mercedes fell behind Red Bull. Ultimately, this could’ve forced the Briton to join Ferrari despite having signed a contract extension only five months prior to his Ferrari announcement. Nevertheless, Lewis Hamilton certainly has faith in the Scuderia’s development which could allow him to fight for the title in 2025.

If Lewis Hamilton wins a world title with Scuderia Ferrari, it would be no less than a fairytale for fans. Maranello has failed to win a championship since 2008. As such, Hamilton’s arrival and a title victory might be the ideal scenario for millions of fans globally.
