Will Buxton demands MAJOR ‘rethink’ of F1 system to catch driver’s jumping the start as Lando Norris and Sergio Perez escape punishment at Jeddah
A lot has been said in the paddock regarding the jump starts at the Saudi Arabian GP.
Sergio Perez, Will Buxton, and Lando Norris
A couple of drivers made mistakes at the beginning of the race in Saudi Arabia and despite this, they didn’t face any consequences. Among them was the jump start done by Lando Norris. Several thoughts were expressed regarding this issue and upon a thorough investigation, the British driver was not penalized.
Norris himself had recognized his mistake, which was seen during his interaction with McLaren over the team radio. It was also seen as a jump start from the cockpit camera but despite this, the F1 system failed to pick up the infringement.
After the race, F1 broadcaster and presenter, Will Buxton, was seen criticizing the decision that was made courtesy of the F1 system. Later on, someone on X posted Sergio Perez‘s Saudi Arabian GP race start antics, and here is how the broadcaster responded to it,
Will Buxton wrote via XYeah if the sensor didn’t pick up Lando’s almighty hop, it’s not going to detect Perez creeping through the five lights either. Whatever tolerance is built into the system detecting a “jump” needs a major rethink.

From the video, Sergio Perez can be seen doing a jump start before the lights went out, but to everyone’s surprise, he managed to get away with it. According to Buxton, the sport really needs to look at its F1 system and rethink how the right decisions can be made.
Will Buxton critiqued Daniel Ricciardo for wasting an unparalleled opportunity
Daniel Ricciardo also known as Honey Badger is currently a part of Red Bull’s sister team VCARB, which was previously known as AlphaTauri. In 2023 Ricciardo joined Red Bull as their reserved driver, but in the second half of the season, he took the place of Nyck De Vries in AlphaTauri.
Many people were happy to see him driving while others criticized him for his previous career choices. Will Buxton believes he had a golden opportunity but he wasted it.
Well, he’s just thrown away five years of his life. By doing two years at Renault, two years at McLaren, one year at the sidelines, when he could’ve just stayed there originally. Will Buxton said on the Pitstop Podcast
Ricciardo was previously a part of Red Bull before he moved to Renault. After not getting the results he wanted, he moved to McLaren where his performances massively declined, and thus, McLaren replaced him after two years with Oscar Piastri. As mentioned earlier, Ricciardo returned to Red Bull as a reserve, which makes many people wonder if perhaps he made the wrong choice by leaving the Austrian team in the first place.
