The Austrian Grand Prix is just a few hours away and ahead of the event, disturbing news of women getting abused by fans has come out of Austria.

It has come to the attention that fans at the Red Bull Ring haven’t been kind towards people and mostly women who have come there as traveling supporters. Yesterday, the atmosphere at the circuit was electric but what was going on in the background was extremely disappointing.

Many women during the event were the subject of racial and homophobic slurs and this has only come to attention after the victims took to Twitter to share their misery of witnessing a Grand Prix in Austria.

Women have used Twitter to raise questions to FIA and Formula One as to who was in charge of the security because given what happened, they definitely did not do a good job of handling the crowd.

As per what has been said about the unfortunate scenes, it seems the racist slurs were thrown in the way of women by Max Verstappen and Red Bull fans.

The rash treatment of traveling fans could be because of the boos that Max Verstappen received during the Silverstone Grand Prix, however, whatever the reason, it is not cool for people to racially or in any way abuse women especially when the world is trying to eradicate it from our society.

Lewis Hamiton who was recently racially abused by Nelson Piquet has also many times raised his voice against racism and how it affects the psyche of an individual.

The Red Bull Ring was full of orange smoke yesterday with joyous Max Verstappen fans showing their support in full force, however, the experience for all attending the event was not the same.

While Max Verstappen fans were having a blast at the circuit, women especially those who were part of the traveling contingent were the subject of inappropriate behavior.

Formula One is trying to unite people all over the world through the sport and to see racial-homophobic slurs being used by people during race events is something that is against what the sport is trying to achieve.

Formula One operates under the slogan of #WeRaceAsOne and given the harassment that particularly women have witnessed at the Red Bull Ring, the hierarchy at FIA should take major steps to stop it from happening again during the race and going forwards into the 2022 season.

If we look at history, women have been treated unequally by men and it is something that is still witnessed in our society even when many organizations are trying to spread the word about it.

Change starts from within and people should keep this in mind before turning up to race events as these are telecasted all over the world and they must do the right things and set the right standards for treating women.
