Monaco GP
There was long some doubt over the Monaco GP’s future in Formula 1. It’s a staple of the F1 calendar, but it hasn’t always been store to good racing in the past couple of years. As the cars have gotten bigger, Monaco, being a street circuit with not much scope for redevelopment, has developed a problem: The cars are too large for the track, and so, overtaking suffers.
It is definitely the most prestigious Grand Prix ‘event’ on the calendar, and no one wants it to go, but the racing and entertainment aren’t always the best. But for the time being, it will stay on the calendar, at least until 2025. The cars are unlikely to get smaller, or the track wider, so the racing experience will not improve that much.
While nobody doubts the pedigree of Monaco the ‘event’, there are certainly questions regarding if the event warrants the ‘race’ staying on the calendar. The entertainment isn’t always there (there was one overtake in 2021), and it’s not incredibly popular amongst the fans nowadays either. As such, some fans are asking questions about its extension.

‘Turn the Monaco GP into an exhibition weekend’

The reaction to Monaco’s extension has been…mixed, to say the least. Even Guenther Steiner thought that it could leave the calendar. It’s true that a lot of people did not want Monaco, a classic staple of the calendar to be replaced by a new race, but it can often be a very frustrating race, where not a lot happens, unless with strategy. It’s sometimes even called ‘processional’. But qualifying is always exciting.
Taking to Twitter, fans gave a variety of reactions. Some wanted it to stay, some wanted it gone, some proposed a rotation system, and some asked for track or car changes.
On the other side:
Some fans proposed track or car changes, or a change in how the weekend takes place or is perceived.
The Monaco Grand Prix is Formula 1’s most iconic event, but surely some changes are needed in the interest of more entertaining races. But how, and what changes? What do you think?
