“You all said it was over for us” Helmut Marko boastful about Max Verstappen’s third successive win

Helmut Marko, CEO of Red Bull Racing is very pleased after the drivers managed to finish 1-2 for the second time this season. The Bulls had a very difficult race after all the technical problems they were facing over the weekend.

Red Bull had an upper hand over Ferrari in the last two weekends, which forced the Red team to bring some upgrades over the Spanish weekend. They looked pretty set for the weekend after topping the practice sessions and with a brilliant lap that got Charles his fourth pole of the season.

In the final times of Q3, Max Verstappen had faced problems said to be with his power but later cleared as one with the DRS, which stopped him from completing his final run for the pole. He faced those problems again today in the race while he was chasing George Russell in the Mercedes but anyway managed to pass him with the tyre strategy and teamwork with Checo Perez.

Charles Leclerc had engine problems and had to DNF giving the Bulls a clear chance for the win, which they struggled but later managed to get hold of and not any better than a strong 1-2. 

Helmut Marko marked it as the return after pinching the reliability issues faced by the Ferrari saying  “After his second retirement, you all said it was over for us. But I said back then that we still had plenty of races to go and we would hit back.”

It was a successful weekend for Red Bull they managed to take lead in both Driver and Constructor Championship. But the race saw a difference of opinion between the driver Sergio Perez and at the garage. 

Perez was asked to let Max by as his teammate was much faster and it was the best way to get a 1-2 finish as we saw later. But the driver called it “unfair” and asked for a talk later after the race.

Helmut Marko cleared things over the distribution between the strategy “Sergio didn’t understand why at the time, but we opted for two different strategies. And Max was much faster at that time. It was the best and safest option for us to get that one-two in.”

Red Bull is overwhelmed with the performance they had in Spain and is moving on to Monaco hoping for the same.
