‘You would say they have learned from it,’ Jos Verstappen takes a cheeky dig at Mercedes after Max Verstappen demolishes opposition at Dutch GP
Jos Verstappen
In the last few months, Max Verstappen has achieved so much which includes the world title that he won in 2021. In the current season, he has a sizeable gap and is poised to make it his second title win in a row. Ahead of the Dutch GP, he revealed that he has a special surprise in store for his father Jos Verstappen who has trained and supported him all throughout his career. Max and his father had started this journey together and they have finally achieved their dream.
As a tribute to his dad, the Red Bull driver was sporting a helmet design that was very much similar to the one that Jos used to race with back in his F1 days. It was a tribute helmet to his father who had such a big role in getting his son to where he is right now.
The reigning world champion had a tough Friday as he struggled in practice but he worked with the team and managed to put it all behind him and went on to grab pole position for his home race. What happened on Sunday was nothing but a simply lovely race for Max Verstappen as he won in style and which surely made Jos Verstappen proud.
Max was given a tough challenge by Mercedes in the race but ended up keeping his cool. Also a bit of luck assisted the Dutch driver which resulted in him grabbing victory on home soil. Further on Jos was talking about how it worked out well for his son even with the late safety car brought out by Valtteri Bottas. Jos did not hesitate to make the most of the day and went on to poke around at Mercedes after their bitter result.
Mercedes as he hints to their title losing defeat in Abu Dhabi
“It was super exciting, but Red Bull was on top of things again”, he said. “You would say that Mercedes has learned from last year’s last race in Abu Dhabi, but apparently not”, he laughed.
“It’s amazing what he’s showing. Yes, it’s clear he has a bit of an advantage. But you should never count yourself lucky if you are not there yet,” he continued.
It was a drama filled Dutch GP with the fans enjoying every bit of it and especially the last part where the home hero Max Verstappen managed to convert his pole to a victory. Jos Verstappen applauded his son’s efforts in keeping his cool and taking the win like the true champ that he is. With just a few races remaining, the title seems to be out of reach for his title contenders.
