Yuki Tsunoda has been sensational this year despite managing only two points. The Japanese starlet has caught the eye of everyone in the F1 paddock, and it is believed that he is currently weighing his options amidst the rumors surrounding Daniel Ricciardo. Tsunoda is well aware of the attention he is amassing and is quite pleased about it.
Yuki Tsunoda endured a difficult first two seasons with the AlphaTauri team, but since the start of the 2023 F1 campaign, he has been nothing short of brilliant in the lackluster AT04. The car is not at a competitive level, but despite this fact, he has managed to put the car through the wringer on almost every occasion.
Moreover, on the back of his stupendous performances, he has caught the attention of several teams, and Tsunoda, while shedding light on the same, told Motorsportweek, “I think Checo has a contract [to the end of] next year, and I guess Red Bull are happy with him. So, for now, I just have to focus on myself and show my value. I think time will tell anyway.”
“I think it’s good to actually stay for now at AlphaTauri and show my performance to all the teams. It’s good to have more attention not just from Red Bull. I don’t get to choose what team I want to go to or what things I want to do in Formula One yet, I think Red Bull will still get to choose, so I want to get to a point as a driver where I get to choose,” he added.
Yuki Tsunoda hopes for AlphaTauri to be competitive in the upcoming years
While Yuki Tsunoda has kept the door open on a potential move away from the Red Bull sister team, he feels there would be no need to depart if AlphaTauri can become competitive in the upcoming years of the sport. While talking about the same, he added, “Maybe one-day AlphaTauri will be in that top part, and in that case then there’s no reason to go to other teams.“
“But anyway, it’s good to have lots of attention because it shows that I have much value and I think we as drivers we’re happy with things like this.” The young Japanese is extremely pleased with the rise in his stock as an F1 racing driver. He feels that he fully belongs to the pinnacle of motor racing and the other exceptional drivers.
The Red Bull group has always been well-known for being ruthless with its underperforming drivers, and considering that Sergio Perez is going through a tough phase on the team, would Tsunoda be a good fit for Red Bull in case the team decides not to renew the Mexican’s contract after the end of the 2024 F1 season?
