Yuki Tsunoda and Sergio Perez
Yuki Tsunoda has performed well in the first three races of the 2023 season, and AlphaTauri’s Team Principal has made it known that the young Japanese has the potential to snatch Sergio Perez’s seat on the Milton Keynes-based F1 team. Franz Tost ardently feels that Yuki Tsunoda can replace Sergio Perez at Red Bull by the start of the 2025 F1 campaign.
Sergio Perez’s current deal with Red Bull is until the end of the 2024 F1 season, and Franz Tost feels that by 2025, it would most probably be the right time to promote a driver from the sister team to Red Bull. Moreover, Tost’s confidence in Tsunoda has stemmed from the progression that he has shown since arriving at AlphaTauri.
Franz Tost, while talking about Yuki Tsunoda, recently said, “Yuki has had two extremely strong races so far. I am very happy with that. It is not his fault that we are still not competitive. At the winter tests, it was precisely his teammate, Dutchman Nyck De Vries, who scored highly. For now, the more experienced F1 driver Tsunoda has outperformed his teammate every weekend.”
Looking at the comments of Franz Tost, it is quite clear that he has full faith in the abilities of Yuki Tsunoda as an F1 driver. He has kept tabs on Tost’s performances at AlphaTauri since his arrival. He believes that the Japanese driver has, over the years, managed to develop all the skills that are essential for having a successful career at the pinnacle of motor racing.
Would Yuki Tsunoda be able to secure a seat at Red Bull in 2025?

When Yuki Tsunoda first emerged on the F1 scene, he was seen as a reckless driver because of his over-aggressive approach during Grand Prix weekends. Moreover, during his early days in the sport, he did wreck his car quite a few times, which cost a truckload of money for the Red Bull sister team. But as a few seasons have gone by, Tsunoda has matured as a driver.
Franz Tost, while further shedding light on Tsunoda’s F1 prospects, said, “I can only say that Yuki is on the right track. He has improved in all aspects. I think he should drive for AlphaTauri in 2024. In 2025, he will finally be ready for Red Bull.” Tost has made it crystal clear that Yuki Tsunoda has now become a competitive F1 driver.
Taking everything into account that Franz Tost has said about his driver and the ever-increasing potential list of drivers that Red Bull could go for, does Yuki Tsunoda really have a chance of securing a seat on the Red Bull team? As things stand, it seems extremely difficult, but considering the unpredictable nature of F1, anything is possible.
