Zak Brown drops major “Colton Herta” hint as McLaren starts looking at potential F1 drivers
Zak and Colton
McLaren has not been where they ideally would have wanted to be this season and there are chances that McLaren could replace Daniel Ricciardo with Colton Herta.
Moreover, internal relations in the team are not very good between Daniel Ricciardo and McLaren CEO Zak Brown. The latter also recently indicated that the Australian’s place in the team could be in jeopardy if things don’t improve soon.
This season the team has been riding on the shoulders of Lando Norris who has done the bulk of the scoring for the team whereas his teammate Ricciardo has struggled again this season and has found it difficult to get to grips with the 2022 car.
Zak being an ambitious man is exploring many options to get the papaya-colored team to a point from where they would be able to challenge for race wins on a regular basis.
McLaren has got its eyes set on Colton Herta
Colton Herta is a name that has been linked with McLaren since the start of the 2022 season and the common belief in the paddock is that the American could be very soon seen in Formula One.
The team looks at Herta as a future option for them and while talking about the IndyCar driver Brown said, “He was Lando’s teammate in Europe many years ago, and Lando rates him very highly, so he has an extremely good chance and is very capable of being an F1 driver. I can see him in F1 whether with McLaren or another team.
Zak Brown has clearly indicated that the Woking-based team has got a very serious interest in Herta and given that he has been a former teammate of Lando Norris, there are very good chances of him joining the team if things don’t improve on Daniel Ricciardo’s side of the garage.
Daniel since joining McLaren has not met the expectations of the team and with every passing Grand Prix, the McLaren outfit is getting restless. If things continue the way they have so far, something would have to give and Ricciardo could be on his way out sooner rather than later.
