Fernando Alonso, the former 2-time F1 world champion, has been racing in the sport for over two decades. Over the years, he has influenced several young drivers and Zhou Guanyu has also recently admitted to the same.
Zhou Guanyu has been making his trade at the pinnacle since 2022 and currently has a deal in place with the Stake F1 team until the end of this year’s campaign. While he will be fighting for his F1 career in the upcoming months, he has taken the time to talk about Fernando Alonso’s influence on him.
Guanyu talked about being an ultimate fanboy of the Spaniard’s.
If I could take you back in time with me and show you my room from when I was a boy, you’d laugh your head off. I had Fernando Alonso posters all over the walls. It looked like the room of a teenager idolizing their favorite pop star.Guanyu Zhou claimed, as per F1.com.
Looking at the reaction of the Chinese driver, it is quite clear that he is a huge fan of the 42-year-old. Moreover, he has admitted that during his teenage years, he used to have his room decorated with Alonso’s posters.

Zhou Guanyu could be on his way out of F1 at the end of 2024
While Zhou Guanyu has left no stone unturned in showing his love for Fernando Alonso, the former has an immensely important F1 campaign heading his way. As mentioned earlier, Guanyu’s current deal will come to a close at the end of 2024.
Moreover, it has been heavily believed that Guanyu would not receive a contract extension from the Sauber group and thus, in all likelihood would not be seen driving in at the pinnacle of motor racing beyond this year.
