“It was worked on to become a winner,” Former Press Officer says Sebastian Vettel was very keen to make things work at Ferrari

Sebastian Vettel

Sebastian Vettel, a Four-time world champion, had frustrating days when he was working with Ferrari. Sebastian was meant for greatness, winning four back-to-back titles in the most dominant way, people saw him as an heir to the Greatest of all time thrown. Vettel did prove himself to be a golden boy as well as a Villian as called by the fans. The 35-year-old after winning the titles with Red Bull moved on to work with Ferrari to complete his dream of a World Championship with the Prancing Horse.

At the end of 2014, Sebastian Vettel decided to part way with the Bulls and joined Ferrari. 2015 was the first time the world witnessed a Seb in Red. Though Ferrari wasn’t a title contender that year, Sebastian still managed to get his first win with the Italian Powerhouse in Malaysia. The year was dominated by a power-packed Mercedes and the same was 2016. As 2017 started, bells rang all around Maranello when Sebastian took victory in the very first race of the season. It was a dream start for a boy who just wanted to fill the shoes of his hero. Ferrari provided Vettel with a car that was capable of lifting the heavy burden of a World Title. But things don’t go as planned in the Formula 1 world.

Sebastian Vettel lost the title to Mercedes. This loss dented a hole in Vettel’s career with a close-up to the title, from almost grabbing it in his arms, he had to give it up after a few mistakes caused him to lose to Lewis Hamilton. That hurted all the Ferrari fans around the world waiting to witness a title back in Italy. But their hope reunited when Sebastian managed to win the Australian GP in 2018, the first race of the season. But 2018 wasn’t a year any Seb and Ferrari fan wants to talk about, that year got the Tifosi hung up on a rope of their own dreams of a title. 2018 was the season Ferrari was the closest to a WDC title but they lost it again to Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton. This loss made the fans criticize Sebastian for all the mistakes he did when he was driving.

Sebastian Vettel’s Ferrari era insights by Alberto Antonini

Though the fans blame Sebastian for the loss they bear, was it really his fault, Alberto Antonini, the former press officer gives all the insights to Sebastian in Red.

2017 and 2018 were the most beautiful and the toughest time Seb and all his fans went through. From winning races out of nowhere to losing out on the ones in his lap, from leading the championship to losing it out in the end. Vettel is the one criticized for all the losses. But Alberto had other things mentioned when he had a chance to talk about these years.

“In 2017, the car was very good, but the development faded. So all the improvements that you’re supposed to put in the car from mid-season onwards, most of them were not right,” said Alberto.

2018 German GP has its own image in every fan that witnessed the massacre. Vettel was leading the race and the championship when he entered to race in his backyard. He took a pole after a brilliant lap on Saturday and was all set to win the race. He was controlling and leading the race until he brushed the barriers which not only took away his lead in the championship but all the confidence to come back and fight for it later that season.

People bluntly blame him for the loss in the title that season but Alberto had a few more to blame.

“The car was not a winner from the start, it was worked on to become a winner. Sebastian was very, very keen to go for it,” explained the pre-season testing of the 2018’s Ferrari.

“What happened in Hockenheim in Germany when he just went straight into the barrier when he was leading and controlling the race – that did affect him, psychologically. He probably lost confidence in that,” Antonini said.

Sebastian finally turned his back to Ferrari at the end of 2020 giving up all hopes of winning a title in Red. But Tifosi didn’t lose a hope for a comeback and they are being served in 2022. But things aren’t well for the Italian Horse this season as well.
