McLaren’s Oscar Piastri currently trails Charles Leclerc in the driver standings. However, given McLaren’s strong performance, it seems likely that Piastri could overtake Leclerc and secure the third position, behind his teammate Lando Norris. Over the last eight races, Piastri has become Max Verstappen’s closest rival. He has significantly improved in race management and pace, areas where he previously struggled compared to Norris. The Australian had won in Hungary and also finished ahead of his teammate in Belgium. Piastri remains determined and believes he can challenge Verstappen for the top spot.

Oscar Piastri stated that he wants to finish as high as possible in the drivers standing. He recognized that aiming for the championship is ambitious, but it’s still possible. He stated that his main goal is to focus on delivering strong performance in upcoming races. Because by doing this the Australian driver can help the team win the Constructors Championship. Therefore, Piastri won’t count himself out of content as his main goal isn’t achieved yet.

As for me, in the Drivers' standings, I would obviously like to finish as high as possible. I am not out of the running for the championship , I know that is an ambitious prediction, but I want to put in a series of good races first and foremost to help the team win the Constructors' title.

Piastri mentioned that if it needed to help Lando Norris they would discuss regarding this. However, for now he is focused on his main goal that is winning Constructors for the team. He also wishes to perform well individually and run after the championship title. Hence, The next fourteen races will challenge the Aussie to support his team and contribute to their bid for the championship.

If during the year I find myself in the situation of having to help Lando, obviously we will discuss it, but the first objective is to win the Constructors' championship and try to do a good job for myself too.

Oscar Piastri focuses on 2025 while aiming for strong results this season

Piastri said that a year ago, McLaren was only fast on a few tracks. However, this year, the team is performing well on all circuits. While he aims for great results this year, Piastri believed focusing on improvement and success in 2025 is more realistic. He is hopeful for good results in 2024 but reckoned that long-term growth and major success in 2025 is a more practical approach.

A year ago we were fast only on some circuits, this year instead we are strong everywhere I want to achieve great results already this year, but growing in view of 2025 I think is the more realistic goal.

Certainly, Oscar Piastri is confident that they can expect a positive outcome from the 2024 season as McLaren is arguably the fastest on the grid currently. They can easily challenge Red Bull who are on top of the rankings and snatch the title from them. Fans hope the Woking-based squad ends the season on a good note by winning the world title.
