Oscar Piastri put forth a mediocre performance at the US GP and failed to contend for the race win. Moreover, a sprint race DNF caused his point led to be reduced even further. Meanwhile, Max Verstappen dominated the entirety of the race and cut short the point deficit to just 40 points. As such, Piastri now blamed the track conditions of the COTA circuit that caused him to finish in only P5.

Since the beginning of the US GP, Oscar Piastri put forth an insignificant performance and failed to achieve anything notable in Austin. Even Lando Norris is now just 14 points adrift of the lead to his Aussie counterpart. Now, Piastri reveals the reason that caused his failure at the US GP against Max Verstappen for fighting for the race win.

Oscar Piastri insisted that he had no pace in his car since the beginning of the race weekend. He pointed out that he tried different changes and tweaks in the car throughout the weekend in hopes of improving results. However, he couldn’t do so and was ultimately either at the same pace or even slower on track, causing his ultimate downfall at the US GP.

I just didn’t have the pace to do anything, I was trying a lot of different things to find some pace, but it was either the same pace or slower.

Oscar Piastri said, as reported by RacingNews365.

Oscar Piastri downplayed his Texas difficulties and reckoned that the woes were track-specific at COTA. He continued that he did not feel comfortable throughout the weekend, as there were things that needed improvement. Piastri explained that he did the best he could with the pace in the McLaren challenger and was glad to atleast have a clean and accident-free race and Qualifying sessions.

I think it was probably track-specific. I’ve not felt particularly comfortable the whole weekend, so definitely there are some things to try and understand, but with the pace I had this weekend, I did the most I could, and qualifying and the race were clean at least, and I made up a spot. Ultimately, that’s all I can really ask for at the moment.

Oscar Piastri reveals ‘biggest focus’ in title fight against Max Verstappen

Max Verstappen is now suddenly in the mix for the driver’s title and cannot be discounted from it for the remainder of the season. Verstappen has cut short a massive 100+ point deficit down to just 40 points in the past four races. As such, Oscar Piastri is wary of the Dutchman and his battle towards the end of the season, and hence reveals his biggest focus against the latter in the title charge.

Oscar Piastri accepted that Max Verstappen was definitely present in the title charge and was quick against the rivals. However, his biggest focus currently was on figuring out why the US GP weekend was so difficult.

He hoped for the team to return to their dominant pace and start winning the final races. As such, he reiterated that returning to their old ways was his biggest focus, and he believed that if the team’s pace returned, the results would take care of themselves.

I mean, he’s obviously there, and he is quick, but for me, the biggest focus is trying to work out why this weekend was tough and try to get on the form we had earlier in the season, That’s my biggest focus, and if we can find that again, then the results will take care of themselves.

Oscar Piastri noted.

The 2025 season is certainly shaping up to be extremely interesting and exciting, especially at the forefront. Max Verstappen can definitely not be discounted from the battle against Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri for the title. Hence, time will tell which driver manages to win the title following a dominant show in the final five races this year.
