Oscar Piastri was the driver to witness throughout the Brazil weekend as he trailed the championship lead by a single point to Lando Norris. The Aussie had to perform well in the sprint race, but a P3 start compared to Norris’ pole meant he was at a disadvantage already. Moreover, Piastri suffered from a crash in the sprint race and walked out of the session with zero points as compared to his teammate’s sprint win.
Now, McLaren’s Boss, Andrea Stella, has opened up on Oscar Piastri‘s wreck and how it was unforgivable, especially at this point in the championship. Piastri’s DNF was extremely underwhelming, especially when compared to Lando Norris‘ stellar sprint win. Stella weighed on both drivers’ results on Saturday and what it means for them for the remainder of the season.
Andrea Stella asserted that a sprint race win was great for Lando Norris, and it was a missed opportunity for Oscar Piastri. Stella further noted that conditions were tricky at the Interlagos circuit, and Piastri made an unforgivable mistake on track, which caused his ultimate crash on track. Following his spin out on the kerb, the Aussie was unable to control his car and ultimately crashed into the barriers.
Andrea Stella recalled that two other drivers, namely, Nico Hulkenberg and Franco Colapinto, crashed in the same corner at the same time, and hence, Oscar Piastri’s crash was understandable. Regardless of the crash, the Italian revealed that the most reassuring input so far was that the Aussie was very fast over the weekend. Hence, the team and Piastri’s crew are looking forward to capitalizing on the speed in the Qualifying session and achieving great results in the main race.
It was a great result for Lando, and a missed opportunity with Oscar, Conditions are tricky, you put the wheel on a kerb and that’s completely unforgiving, there’s no way to control the car. It happened to three drivers in the same lap. So, it’s just unfortunate, but the most reassuring input thus far, is that Oscar has been fast. So we now look forward, we want to capitalise this speed in qualifying and then in the race tomorrow.

Oscar Piastri labels his Brazil Sprint DNF as ‘unfortunate mistake’
Oscar Piastri is now trailing the championship lead by nine points following his Brazil DNF. The Aussie certainly won’t be happy with this mistake, as it could be fatal in his championship ambitions this year. Piastri opened up on his thoughts following the crash and put forth his opinion on the matter. The 24-year-old was understandably upset with his collision and hence revealed his frustration.

Speaking on the unfortunate collision, Oscar Piastri explained that he dipped his wheel on the white line of the kerb and completely lost control of the car. He accepted that it was a silly mistake and claimed that it was unfortunate. He noted that it was definitely unfortunate, but nothing more than that. Piastri added that there were a lot more points to offer during the main race, and his primary goal was to fight for the Brazil GP race win.
I just dipped a wheel on the white line of the kerb and around I went. A silly mistake really, an unfortunate mistake, so that’s it. There’s a lot more points on offer tomorrow, so the better job I can do in Qualifying to get a good starting spot, the better it will be.

The 2025 season still has three more races to go, even after the culmination of the Brazilian GP. Oscar Piastri will give it his all in the final races and close in on Lando Norris in the standings. For now, things aren’t looking so good for the Aussie as he aims to achieve a turnaround in results this weekend.
