The Belgian GP was a rollercoaster of a race. The start was delayed by visibility issues due to poor weather. However, once the race began, fans were hooked to the screens as Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris battled it out for victory. The two McLarens were in close contest in the ending stages of the Grand Prix, with Piastri emerging victorious.
Oscar Piastri had qualified in second place for Sunday’s race, behind his teammate Lando Norris who successfully claimed pole position. The Australian driver quickly turned things around and took the lead after a rolling start. From that point, it was Piastri who seemed to be in control, as he undercut Norris during the round of pitstops.
However, Lando Norris’ alternate tire strategy on hard tires gave the Briton an advantage in the latter half of the race. Oscar Piastri was forced to fend off Norris as he risked losing considerable time on worn out mediums. Nevertheless, the 24-year-old kept it clean and managed to clinch victory.
The Australian driver was ecstatic following his victory, claiming that he was feeling extremely lively. Oscar Piastri pointed out that he knew it was important to take the lead at the race start. The 24-year-old claimed that he made a daring move after Turn 1 which eventually led to his victory. With the championship leader ensuring that everything remained under control for the rest of the race.
Lively, very lively! I knew that lap was the best chance of winning the race. I got a good exit out of Turn 1, lifted as little as I dared and yeah. We had it mostly under control [from there].

Oscar Piastri reveals similar backup plan to Lando Norris
Getting the race lead at the start gave Piastri the preference when it came to switching to slick tires. The Australian driver decided to make a safe call on mediums. On the other hand, Norris risked taking the slower hard tires with the chance of pushing at the end of the race. Piastri has now claimed that he would’ve done something similar if he was in the place of his teammate.

Oscar Piastri acknowledged that he would’ve taken the hard tire gamble if he was in second place. This would’ve given him an opportunity to potentially take the lead if it paid off. The 24-year-old claimed that he was aware that his teammate would adopt this strategy. Nevertheless, the Australian insisted that he was more comfortable on the mediums.
I had the same plan [as Norris] if I was second – I knew that was a likely decision for him, but the medium was the sensible tire for me.

Certainly, Oscar Piastri’s drive at Spa-Francorchamps was impressive. The Australian did not crack under pressure even though Norris seemingly had an advantage in the end. This performance continues Piastri’s incredible 2025 campaign where he has seemed far more comfortable than his more experienced teammate. With this victory, Piastri is only making his claim on the world title stronger.
