Red Bull’s Sergio Perez is having an extremely torrid time behind the wheel of the RB20. After an initial boost, his performances have taken a massive downturn and ahead of the British GP, McLaren’s Oscar Piastri has taken the opportunity to take a slight dig.

In the last four races, Sergio Perez has only managed to score 10 points. This is extremely shocking keeping in view that Perez has been driving the mighty RB20. The whole paddock has taken note of this fact and Red Bull hierarchy has also shown concern over its driver’s performances.

Oscar Piastri feels Perez’s woes are beneficial for McLaren in the Constructors standings. When the Australian was asked about the 34-year-old’s problems in comparison to his teammate, Max Verstappen, he had the following to say.

Certainly helps our constructors’ championship bid.

While elaborating further on the topic, he added.

It has just been Max, really. Whenever you have two cars up the front versus one, it opens up some opportunities and is always good for point scoring. I think it’s just always a good thing to have.
Oscar Piastri said in the same interview

Looking at the reaction of the 23-year-old, it is quite clear that he is very pleased with the state of things at Red Bull. Piastri genuinely feels McLaren can take the fight to Red Bull with two cars tussling against Verstappen at the front end of the grid.

Red Bull junior to take over Sergio Perez’ RB20 for Silverstone FP1

While Piastri has not shied away from taking an indirect dig at Perez, it has been made known that Red Bull junior/F2 racer, Isack Hadjar, will drive in the British GP FP1 session. The latter will take over Perez’s RB20.

The opportunity has come the way of Hadjar courtesy of his impressive performances in the 2024 F2 season. He is currently in second place in the driver’s standings and has even scored feature race victories in Melbourne and Imola.

The Red Bull juniors are impressing one and all with their performances in the junior categories. While Sergio Perez has struggled behind the wheel of the RB20 this year, it is going to be fascinating to see how the young Hadjar would fair in Perez’s car in the Silverstone FP1 session.
