McLaren driver, Oscar Piastri has shown his eagerness towards the outcome of the team’s performance in the upcoming Spanish GP after a string of good performances. The papaya outfit is currently third in the championship and has been in a far more improved state as compared to their performances during the past campaigns.
The 2024 F1 season has emerged as one of the most competitive, with Red Bull, Ferrari, and McLaren all in line to win the title with persistent efforts. In the recent Canadian GP, surprisingly, even Mercedes seemed to be on par with the top three teams, which could suggest that the Silver Arrows might also be a contender if their improvements continue to develop fruitfully.
Oscar Piastri has hence said that he is confident with the developments at McLaren and is convinced of a good weekend for the team in Barcelona. The 23-year-old also claimed that it is time for other outfits to be prepared for the test to make an honest assessment of where the Woking-based team stack for the Spanish GP.
The last two weekends have been quite similar in some of their characteristics, quite low speed corners, some kerbs and bumps to take into account, but the few tracks before that were quite different. I would say here is different again, like much more high-speed content. So it will be interesting to see where we sit. It's been a while since we've had really high-speed corners like the last sector and Turn 9, Turn 3. So it will be interesting to see where we stack up.Oscar Piastri via RacingNews365
Piastri has been one of the most competent drivers on the grid in just his second season for McLaren in the pinnacle of motorsport. The Qatar GP sprint winner further elaborated that it would be interesting to see how the MCL38 fares against the high-speed corners of Barcelona as he looks to win his first race of the season.
Lando Norris claims McLaren need to provoke themselves to win
McLaren driver, Lando Norris has asserted that McLaren currently lacks a proper system of feedback and provocation, which is a major hindrance to their inability to win races. Norris won the Miami GP this season but has been on the front row several times without a win.
I'm judging a lot of my feelings and decisions off what the team are telling me. So, it's a little bit from their side, a little bit from my side, in provoking or giving more feedback - those kind of thingsLando Norris said post the Canadian GP via Motorsport
McLaren has come from being a team that struggled to finish in the podium places to being an active challenger for wins this season due to the diligence of their drivers and the team. However, there have been many occasions where the team has failed to win despite being in a more dominant position than the leader.
Lando Norris has hence clarified that there has been a bit of an empty space to fill the bridge of communications between him and the team during races, which has thwarted his judgment little by little. The 24-year-old also made it known that there have been some mistakes on his part, which he will not repeat in the future to guarantee more points and wins for the team.
