Oscar Piastri lost out on the 2025 driver’s title win under very disappointing circumstances. Despite being the favorite to win the championship up until the final stages of the season, he lost it all in the end. Piastri nearly missed out on the title win by just 13 points following the season finale in Abu Dhabi. Now, the Aussie is all the more hungry for a title win, and he will leave no stone unturned to win it in the 2026 season.
Many people felt sympathy for Oscar Piastri following his disappointing title loss. Some even accused McLaren of a British bias amid Piastri’s mysterious slump. However, the Australian refused to accept that any such bias existed within the British constructor. Now, in a recent interview, Piastri has laid out his ambitions to win his maiden title in the 2026 season.
Oscar Piastri boldly claimed that he was now hungry and ready to win his first driver’s title in Formula 1. Though he noted that he was looking forward to the off-season for now, and not jumping back into the cockpit. The Aussie will certainly be smarter in terms of team orders and not help his teammate by putting his own championship title at stake, as he did in the 2025 season.
Although Oscar Piastri wasn’t ready to jump into the car already, he insisted that he still had a lot to take for the 2026 season. The new regulations mean that the car and power unit will be completely different. Hence, Piastri accepted that there might be a few races of uncertainty for himself and the team. Regardless, the 24-year-old was confident that the people at Woking would develop a competitive challenger.
Just hungry and ready for it. I’m obviously looking forward to a couple of weeks just to chill out and not think about racing. But when we get back into it, there’s, there’s a lot of things to learn for next year, a lot of differences with the cars and the engines. So, you never quite know how you’re going to come out of the gate when there’s such a big change, but I think we’re confident in the people around us.

Oscar Piastri reveals he gained ‘confidence’ because of 2025 woes
Certainly, Oscar Piastri committed major blunders that completely ruined his championship-winning chances. If the Aussie did not suffer from the mid-season slump, he had the title win in his bag. Moreover, the botched team orders caused him to further lose his running on track. As such, the 24-year-old revealed the learnings he took from the previous year and how they helped him gain more confidence.

Oscar Piastri hinted at the difficult situations that McLaren put him through and how he gained more confidence in him and learned more about himself. Piastri highlighted that he could take these learnings for the next year and perform much better than expected. The Aussie is confident that if he applies his learnings correctly, he will certainly perform better regardless of the challenger’s performance.
And yeah, for myself, I’ve really gained a lot of confidence from some of the things from this season that I can take forward to next year, regardless of whatever car we’ve got.
Oscar Piastri noted.
The 2026 season is still a big unknown for all the teams and drivers on the grid. The likes of Lewis Hamilton, Charles Leclerc, and others have casted doubts upon the new regulations. However, simulation experience cannot give the real feel to the drivers as they will find out everything about the challenger during the pre-season testing. For now, everyone is away from the grid and enjoying their vacation to the fullest.
