Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris have emerged as the title contenders in F1 this season. The McLaren drivers occupy the first two spots in the standings. This has led to some intense battles between the two on-track, which boiled over at the Canadian GP. Nevertheless, Piastri remains confident that the Woking-based team will allow them to keep fighting one another.
During the ending stages of the Canadian GP, Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris were in an intense battle in the hopes of outscoring one another. Ultimately, this led to chaos as Norris made contact with the Australian on the main straight before crashing out of the race. The 25-year-old completely took the blame for the incident, as he misjudged the room available to make a move.
This incident could be detrimental to the championship for both drivers and McLaren as the team lost out on crucial points. Many wonder whether the British team will consider bringing team orders to avoid a repeat in the future.
However, post-race, Oscar Piastri highlighted that he and Norris are battling one another for the F1 world title, and McLaren has so far allowed them to race freely. The Australian driver remained optimistic that this incident will not lead to any change over the team’s position, hinting that Woking will allow the two drivers to continue pushing each other, at least for now.
We are both fighting for a championship, and the team allows us to race, I am thankful for that. I don’t think this will change anything.
Oscar Piastri said post-race

Oscar Piastri yet review Lando Norris’ crash footage
Following the race, Piastri made his way to the post-race interviews. The 24-year-old had some tough questions to answer as this was the first time he and Norris had such a massive collision. In Formula 1, crashing into your teammate is considered to be the biggest sin. Despite Lando Norris primarily taking blame for the crash, it remains a bad day for Piastri as well.

The Australian driver admitted that this was not good for anyone at McLaren. However, Piastri notified the media that he was yet to review the crash footage himself, perhaps due to the lack of time since he got out of the car. The 24-year-old was unsure of what exactly caused the incident. Though, he acknowledged that if Norris has assumed responsibility, then that must be the case.
Its not ideal for anyone, but I haven’t actually seen the incident. I don’t exactly know what happened, if Lando took full responsibility that how it goes.
Oscar Piastri added

Certainly, McLaren is set to have a long debrief with its drivers before leaving Montreal. The British team will need to give an ultimatum that such an incident cannot be repeated. While so far, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri have been allowed to compete freely, things might change if the two do not maintain limits during their battles on the track. Thus, it will be interesting to see how things pan out within Woking in the coming weeks.
