Oscar Piastri has finally lost the championship led to Lando Norris by just one point following the latter’s stellar win at the Mexico GP. Piastri has been suffering from a streak of woeful results after returning from the summer break and is unable to come up as a winning force.

Amid his performance slump, Norris has taken great advantage of the situation and swooped in for the lead. Despite seemingly losing, the Aussie refuses to change his ways or reinvent himself to battle his British counterpart hard in the final four races.

The Mexico GP outing was one of the more disappointing outings from Oscar Piastri in the 2025 season. The 24-year-old was surprised at the mysterious downfall in pace in his McLaren challenger. Although Piastri believed that his struggles at the US GP were track-specific, such was the case in Mexico as well. Now, after losing the race and the championship lead to Lando Norris, the Aussie has revealed his game plan for the rest of the season.

Oscar Piastri isn’t hesitant to accept his shortcomings in performance at this stage of the championship fight. The Aussie reckoned that the car had not changed for a while, and hence it wasn’t a mechanical issue. Speaking on the massive pace difference between him and Lando Norris, Piastri accepted that the latter found it easier to perform well in the challenger as compared to him.

The car’s obviously not changed for a while, so it’s nothing to do with the car, Given how the pace has differentiated, clearly Lando has found it easier to dial into that, and I haven’t.

Oscar Piastri said, as reported by RacingNews365.

Despite current difficulties, Oscar Piastri recalled his outing in the rest 19 races of the 2025 season and how he was a dominating force even in his struggling races. Piastri insisted that his driving style had favored him since the beginning of the season, and it would continue to do so. As such, the 24-year-old asserted that he did not need to reinvent himself and find ways out of the slump; rather, he needed to add some tools to the toolbox.

It’s important to remember the other 19 races, and the way I’ve been driving has been working pretty well. It’s about adding some tools to the toolbox, rather than reinventing myself.

Oscar Piastri reveals ‘strange’ to get his head around sudden performance slump

Oscar Piastri was the top contender for race wins and was seemingly on the path to an easy championship win. However, his pace and performance in the recent races have deteriorated significantly, and he doesn’t seem like the same driver he was at the beginning of the season. Because of this situation, he insisted that it was strange to witness his current form and degradation.

Speaking on his recent few outings, Oscar Piastri noted that he had to drive very differently compared to the other races this year. He accepted that he might not have driven differently at races that needed a separate driving style, which might have caused his downfall. Still, he acknowledged that it was strange to get his head around the current situation because he had been driving the same way since the beginning of the season.

I’ve just had to drive very differently the last couple of weekends — or I’ve not driven differently when I should have, I think that’s been a little bit strange to get my head around because I’ve been driving exactly the same as I have all year.

Oscar Piastri noted.

Even though Piastri has lost the championship lead, the title battle is far from over. The two Papaya drivers are separated by just one single point. Moreover, Max Verstappen is still in the fight as his P3 finish in Mexico helped him shorten the gap between him and the Aussie even more.
