The intra-team battle at McLaren between Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri has continued to heat up since the beginning of the 2025 season. Following the late-race position swap drama at the Italian GP, Piastri is leading the title with just 31 points now. However, with just eight races to go, Woking will have to favor either of the drivers to be the favorite to win the title. Now, the Aussie reveals that Zak Brown doesn’t really like this conversation and is sensitive to it.
Oscar Piastri had declared that he would race his teammate hard this season and give him a decent fight for the title. Piastri is currently leading the title and seems to be the favorite to emerge victorious down the season. Still, McLaren has made some controversial decisions to swap the two drivers, which has caused a lot of backlash towards them. Hence, sooner or later, the team must prioritize one driver over the other, which would definitely be a very difficult conversation.
Oscar Piastri hinted that he and the entire McLaren crew had a little discussion about this matter, especially following the shenanigans in Monza. However, Piastri noted that it wasn’t a serious discussion, and it isn’t in the list of important things for Woking, as they have bigger things to deal with. The Aussie acknowledged that for one driver, it would be a great time, while the other would have a painful experience.
We’ve spoken about it a little bit, I don’t think it’s a discussion and certainly not at the top of our list of important things. For one of us, it’s going to be a pretty amazing time, and for the other, it’s going to be pretty painful.
Oscar Piastri said, as reported by RacingNews365.com
Speaking on Zak Brown and Co.’s reaction to the entire conversation, Oscar Piastri emphasized that they remained sensitive to this topic and its discussions. Piastri believes that it is nice that they have such a reaction to the topic. As such, the 24-year-old noted that the crew had a conversation on the status quo, but it wasn’t very serious, and he didn’t need to worry about it for now.
The team and Zak are just very sensitive to that, which is nice. So we’ve spoken about a little bit, but I don’t think it really needs much more conversation.

Oscar Piastri reveals ‘unchanged’ risk attitude against Lando Norris
Oscar Piastri has put forth one of the most consistent performances this year, with no race finishes outside the top ten. Piastri’s worst result this season is only a P9 finish at the season-opener of the Australian GP. Now that he and Lando Norris are just 31 points apart, the Australian has revealed that his strategy in the title charge remains unchanged despite the impending risk from Norris.

Piastri pointed out that five races ago, he did not expect that the championship standings would be so close all of a sudden. At its peak, the two drivers were separated by just nine points, which quickly turned around after Norris’ DNF at the Dutch GP. The Aussie explained that he did not need to take an untoward risk on the track as it could work out against his favor. As such, despite the current championship battle, his strategy to emerge victorious and he wasn’t going to take risks any more than required.
The risk attitude, five races ago, [I] didn’t know the championship picture was going to look like this. And if you took a different amount of risk either way, then the gap is going to be potentially smaller than what it is, could potentially be bigger. But I like to think that my approach to risk is pretty measured. So for me, that doesn’t really change regardless of the championship situation.
Oscar Piastri noted
McLaren has exceeded all expectations and has put forth the best performance compared to its rivals on track this year. The team has already ridden off into the distance in the constructors’ championship and is leading the title with an enormous gap of 357 points to Ferrari in P2. Hence, the only battle left is now between Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris, with both fighting for their coveted maiden title in the pinnacle of motorsport.
