Oscar Piastri will remain the driver to watch closely in the 2026 season as he hopes to achieve a comeback from his disappointing title loss in 2025. The Aussie nearly won his first driver’s title but lost it all in the end because of a mysterious performance slump. Now, speaking on the new regulations in the coming season, Piastri bluntly accepted that they were unpredictable and uncertain.
None of the teams is seemingly the title favorite for the new regulations in 2026. McLaren might still dominate the grid with a Mercedes-powered engine, as the German carmaker is believed to be at the forefront of development. Still, Oscar Piastri isn’t overconfident about his chances to succeed under the new regulations, as it will certainly take some time to put his foot down and start performing well.
Speaking on the new regulations, Oscar Piastri accepted that it would certainly be different compared to the previous years. He added that the way drivers went racing against one another would be different as well. Still, it will take some time before all the teams and drivers are comfortable with the renewed regulations and start performing well on the grid.
I think it definitely will be different, yes, I think in terms of how we race each other, it’s going to be quite different. I think the hybrid element and managing the battery level is going to be a really important thing.I mean, it has been important in the past, but with that element being so much bigger from this season onwards, there’s going to be a lot more management of that from the drivers ourselves.
Oscar Piastri told TODAY.
Oscar Piastri highlighted that there would be some interesting scenarios at the beginning of the season, as some drivers would preserve battery while others would take a more tactical approach. Further, Piastri insisted that he himself wasn’t aware of how everything would play out in the end, but he was sure that the battles would be interesting one way or the other.
I think especially the beginning of the season, you could see some interesting scenarios between drivers where some are more tactical and saving their battery, some are just trying to get track position, and it could be an interesting kind of tactical battle there. In all honesty, I also have no idea how it’s going to pan out, but I think it’ll be entertaining one way or another.

Oscar Piastri claims he ‘feels more mature’ after 2025 F1 woes
Certainly, Oscar Piastri suffered multiple disappointing situations in the 2025 season, especially after losing the driver’s title to his teammate, Lando Norris. The Aussie had to play the team game on multiple occasions and ultimately ruin his own running. As such, after going through whatever he did in the previous season, he reckoned that he felt more confident in himself now.

Oscar Piastri declared that he felt more mature and responsible as a person. He pointed out that he was aware of what to expect from himself and the team now. Despite losing the title at the end of the season, Piastri was delighted that he could achieve so much success over the year and remain a strong contender for the title until the very end of the season.
I feel more mature. I feel more responsible. I know what I want a bit more now. And also just a sense of pride. Even though the end result wasn’t exactly what I wanted, I think to have the amount of success that I had was something that I would have dreamed of at the start of the year.
Oscar Piastri noted.
Time will tell about how McLaren and Oscar Piastri fare against the massive hopes laid on them by the community. Certainly, Piastri is not going to leave any stone unturned in his title ambitions against the rivals.
