Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris have emerged as the favorites for winning the title in the 2025 season, courtesy of McLaren’s dominant performance. Amid the summer break, Piastri is leading the title with just nine points over Norris. As such, tensions might be high between the two drivers as they could put forth a stern rivalry by the season’s end. However, the Aussie asserts that there isn’t much tension between the two, as they are enjoying a fun hobby amid their title fight.
Both McLaren drivers are racing clean on the track, with just a single crash at the Canadian GP, which ruined Lando Norris‘ race. Still, Oscar Piastri is flawless in his results and is maximizing his points over the race weekends. However, such a close rivalry between two teammates hasn’t been seen in Formula 1 since the Hamilton-Rosberg rivalry in the 2016 season.
Back then, tensions were extremely high between Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg, which led to a soured relationship between the two after the latter won the driver’s title. Still, Oscar Piastri asserted that he had an interesting dynamic with Lando Norris. Piastri reckoned that there wasn’t much tension between them and they got along well, despite the on-track shenanigans.
It’s an interesting dynamic, I think, I think we both feel there’s not really any tension. Well, there’s not any tension at all, really. I think we get on very well.
Oscar Piastri told F1
Oscar Piastri funnily revealed that he and Lando Norris built waffle towers and did silly stuff on Thursdays, during the race weekend. But, as soon as both get on track, they get into their fighting mindset and try to score the best results possible. Piastri asserted that he and Norris remained determined to win and get as many points, and do not think much about their friendship.
We’re building Waffle Towers and doing silly stuff on Thursdays [at track] but obviously once we get on track, then the business starts and we’re both very determined to try and win and try and get as many points as we can.

Oscar Piastri assures relationship with Lando Norris won’t ‘change’
McLaren is not going to interfere with Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris fighting one another on track this season. Piastri is also prepared to race Norris hard for his maiden drivers’ title. Even though the competition reaches its peak, the Australian believes that this wouldn’t ruin their relationship with one another.

Oscar Piastri noted that there were two sides to fighting on track and their relationship. Regardless, he assured that their on-track tensions would not spill onto their off-track relationship, which is a great thing. Piastri reiterated that the two had an interesting dynamic as he revealed that he always got along well with Norris. As such, the 24-year-old assured that his relationship wouldn’t change with the Briton, no matter the battles on track.
There’s definitely kind of two sides to it but if there’s tension in wanting to beat each other, it never spills out off the track, which I think is a nice thing. It is an interesting dynamic in how it kind of changes and flows. We’ve always gotten on well, so I don’t think that’ll change.
Oscar Piastri noted
The constructors’ championship seems done and dusted for McLaren as they enjoy a 299-point lead over Ferrari in P2. The driver’s title is still far from over, and Lando Norris will give it his all to trump Oscar Piastri by the season’s end. Now, time will tell which driver comes out on top and wins their maiden title this year.
