Sergio Perez has found extreme difficulties in continuing to score good results in the 2024 season. The Mexican driver is unable to follow up on Max Verstappen‘s dominant performance. As a result, multiple people started questioning if the 34-year-old deserved a seat at Red Bull. However, Perez will continue the season as intended and hopes to improve in performance down the season.
Red Bull Chief Paul Monaghan shared his thoughts on the entire matter of Sergio Perez vs Max Verstappen at Red Bull. Monaghan mentioned that he didn’t want to be rude to Perez before making a bold claim. The 56-year-old claimed that Checo would take the former’s ‘head off’ after listening to the claim. Subsequently, the Briton added that Verstappen was a little faster than the Mexican driver.
I don't want to be rude to Checo, and he could very well take my head off if he sat here. But I would say in general that Max is a little ’ faster than he is.Paul Monaghan said, as reported by formu1a.uno
Apart from this, Monaghan revealed that the difference per curve between the two drivers was minimal. Verstappen earned half a tenth over Sergio Perez at a curve which was later added to the overall time. Hence, the Dutchman reaches the limit of performance while Checo manages to remain closer to it but never surpasses it.
he difference per curve is minimal. Maybe Verstappen earns half a tenth at a curve, which is added along a turn. It reaches the limit and remains a little ’ closer to it, and does not go beyond him excessively in qualifying when he exaggerates.
Paul Monaghan labeled Sergio Perez as ‘good enough’ against Max Verstappen
Sergio Perez will have to pick the pace up and start to perform on par with Max Verstappen. Perez’s future could be in danger following such declining performances against his teammate. Paul Monaghan believed that there was ‘something more’ than just the fact that Checo underperforming. Regardless, the Red Bull Chief labeled the Mexican driver as just ‘good enough’.
If this is objective measurement, so be it. I think there is something more, perhaps, but Perez is good enough, isn't he?Paul Monaghan concluded
Red Bull will have to continue to work on their struggles in the 2024 season. The Austrian constructor is desperately losing ground to McLaren in the season. Hence, Milton Keynes will implement upgrades over the coming race weekends and hope to return back to their winning ways.
