Ex-F1 driver claims Fernando Alonso might be ‘Superman’

Fernando Alonso continues to be the oldest driver on the F1 grid amidst his Aston Martin contract extension. The 42-year-old has won two world championships and hasn’t given up on scoring another one just yet. Hence, the Spaniard has been rated very highly by a majority of the people present on the grid due to this fact. Upon this, Former F1 driver, Pedro de la Rosa complimented Alonso.
Fernando Alonso was thought to potentially retire after the expiration of his contract at the end of the 2024 season. However, the 42-year-old shocked the grid after signing a multi-year contract extension. Pedro de la Rosa admitted that he had seen the Asturian racing ever since his karting days. de la Rosa added that Alonso’s character was such that he would immediately stop if he ever felt that he couldn’t perform better.

Apart from this, Fernando Alonso was scared that he might lose his eyesight and need glasses. However, the test revealed that his eyesight was fine and he was good to continue. Hence, de la Rosa recalled this incident and mentioned how Alonso claimed to be ‘above 100%.’ As a result, the Spaniard reckoned that maybe the Asturian driver was ‘Superman.’

Fernando Alonso will be 45 years of age by the time his current contract expires with Aston Martin. de la Rosa added that Alonso’s entire life had been about motorsport and living for motorsport, which made all the difference. Additionally, Alonso took great care of himself which allowed him to race in F1 beyond 40 years of age.
His life has been motorsport. He's been sleeping, eating, and living for motorsports, and that's what makes the difference, You don't reach 40 in Formula 1 if you haven't taken maximum care of yourself, and Fernando has.Pedro de la Rosa added.
Apart from this, the fact that the 42-year-old was still talking about a contract extension after 2026 spoke a lot about his career. Subsequently, de la Rosa reckoned that everyone was lucky to witness Alonso who looks after himself and for the benefit of the team.

Fernando Alonso has however sustained a mediocre start to the 2024 season. The 42-year-old wants to still push for the world championship amidst his chances at other teams. Alonso has proved his loyalty to Silverstone by locking in with the team for the upcoming years. Hence, the coming season would be highly exciting to witness the Spaniard attempt to perform better than the majority of the prolific youngsters on the grid.
