Red Bull is currently suffering from a desperate performance slump. The team is also going through a mass exodus as many key figures have already left the outfit, with Christian Horner being fired from the team. Max Verstappen and Co. seem to be the ones holding the entire crew together, as his departure from the team could be their end. As such, ex-F1 driver Perry McCarthy emphasizes the importance of Verstappen.
Max Verstappen and Co. were already rumored to want Christian Horner fired from Red Bull if the former were to continue racing for the team. Hence, Horner was axed from the outfit, amid all the Verstappen to Mercedes rumors. The Dutchman then declared that he would continue with Milton Keynes and potentially even end his career with the same team. Moreover, the reigning champion is the major point scorer for the team, scoring 187 out of 194 total points for the constructor.
Perry McCarthy spoke openly about the importance of Max Verstappen to Red Bull. McCarthy was questioned about how important Verstappen was for the stability of the Austrian outfit. The Briton insisted that if one spelled the word crucial and then multiplied its meaning by 15, then one would derive the importance of the reigning world champion to Milton Keynes.
I think if you were to spell crucial in capital letters, and then multiply it by 15, you’d have somewhere near the answer.
Perry McCarthy told RacingNews365
Perry McCarthy stressed that Max Verstappen was arguably the best driver in the world at the moment. McCarthy noted that the Dutchman’s mental capacity was incredible, and it was something that set him apart from his rivals. However, the Briton accepted that he wasn’t completely on board with some of the chaos that Verstappen caused on the F1 grid at times.
Because Max, it can be easily argued, is the best driver in the world at this moment in time. His ability is astounding, and his mental capacity is incredible, but the caveat here is that I’m not in love with all the things he does on track sometimes, but that is one side of it.

Perry McCarthy labels Max Verstappen ‘best of all time’
Max Verstappen is a four-time consecutive world champion and potentially even more. The Dutchman has kept up with positive results despite struggling in the Red Bull Challenger. While Verstappen’s time in the 2025 season isn’t so good, Perry McCarthy argued that the 27-year-old is indeed one of the best of all time.

Perry McCarthy reiterated that Max Verstappen and his talent and mental ability were incredible, as compared to other drivers. McCarthy did not mince his words and asserted that he would hasten and add that Verstappen was definitely one of the best drivers of all time, if not the best driver in the history of Formula 1.
If you look at his talent and his mental ability, it is absolutely incredible, and I would hasten to add that Max is very much one of the best of all-time.
Perry McCarthy noted
Max Verstappen is still just 27 years old and has many more years left to race in Formula 1. While Verstappen hasn’t always spoken openly about his future plans, he is likely in the sport for the long run. The Dutchman has already achieved a lot and is likely going to set a new standard for the drivers in the years to come. Now, time will tell if the four-time champion manages to come out of the performance slump and return back to his winning ways.
