Sergio Perez has decided to ‘part ways’ with Red Bull due to failing performances in recent seasons. All teams have confirmed their lineups for the coming season and have no vacancy for Perez. However, the Mexican driver might have a chance with General Motors’ Cadillac entry in 2026. F1 pundit Peter Windsor revealed the reason behind the 34-year-old potentially not being considered for the American constructor.
Cadillac is all set to join the grid as an ‘All American’ constructor next season and is likely to sign at least one driver from the US. Multiple drivers, including Marcus Ericsson are the prime candidates to join the team. Sergio Perez was believed to be considered to join the team as they might need an experienced driver to establish the team well.
Peter Windsor raised uncertainty over GM even considering Perez in the first place. The 72-year-old suggested that the team would also want at least one American driver in the car. Apart from this, the team would need a driver who’s quick and brings a lot to the team. Windsor believed that the Mexican driver would be unable to fulfill this requirement especially after being ‘sidelined’ by Red Bull.
Red Bull’s commercial ties take a massive hit with Sergio Perez’s exit
Sergio Perez brought in a plethora of sponsor deals to Red Bull while racing with the team over the past seasons. The Mexican driver also helped Formula 1 sign a deal with KitKat as the official chocolate bar recently. However, Perez’s exit has caused a sponsorship mass exodus at Milton Keynes from the coming season.
The major sponsors such as Claro and Telcel have already left the team effective immediately. Apart from this, multiple other brands such as HP, Intel, ByBit, and BMC have also left the team following Perez’s exit. However, new sponsors have already signed with the team such as EA Sports, Pepe Jeans, etc.

Perez’s exit certainly cost a lot of sponsors to Red Bull for the coming seasons. However, the team believed that the loss of sponsorship was less than the cost of losing the championships. Hence, the 34-year-old must look at the options available in the future, if any, and take the decision in the best interest of himself and the team.
