George Russell did not have a great outing at the Mexico GP after he failed to amass any notable results. The Briton who recently received a contract extension with Mercedes was unable to fare well on Mexican soil.
To make matters worse, Russell was vocal all throughout the race about the on-track issues regarding other drivers. Amid the 27-year-old’s heated comments on the radio, ex-F1 driver Ralf Schumacher lashed out at the former and christened him with some stern words.
At the beginning of the Mexico GP, Max Verstappen made a daring move against George Russell, which allowed the former to gain one position on him. While the move was ambitious from Verstappen, it certainly wasn’t out of bounds.
Russell still burst out on the radio, calling out the drivers and asking them to be penalized for their actions. The FIA did not penalize anyone, except Lewis Hamilton, who failed to keep his car within the racing track.
Now, Ralf Schumacher did not mince his words while bad-mouthing George Russell and his radio outburst in Mexico. Schumacher insisted that Russell showcased his classic behavior, something which he always does when he wants some attention. The German continued that the 27-year-old believed that the loudest driver would get the most attention on track, which might not have been the case at the Mexico GP.
Further, Ralf Schumacher asserted that George Russell’s complaints were not taken seriously, and he was glad that this happened. The 50-year-old was glad that the stewards did not listen to Russell and penalize the drivers whom he complained about. Schumacher pointed out that he was glad with how the events unfolded in Mexico, and the Silver Arrow was ignored for the most part.
Russell…. Well, the classic! Whoever complains the loudest gets some extra attention. This time, fortunately, that didn’t work. To be honest, I’m quite happy about that.
Ralf Schumacher said on the Backstage Boxengasse podcast.
Ralf Schumacher claims Max Verstappen ‘rightly’ did not get a penalty
George Russell’s biggest complaint was against Max Verstappen at the beginning of the race as the former lost his P4 position on the race start. However, the move did not require a penalty, something that many people debated over. Ralf Schumacher is sure in his beliefs that Verstappen indeed did not need a penalty for his move on Turn 1; rather, it was all part of racing and was bound to happen at such a point in the championship fight.

Ralf Schumacher reiterated that it was right that Max Verstappen was not penalized for his antics at the Mexico GP. Schumacher drew attention to the fact that Verstappen did not wriggle between the two Ferraris and let them pass him on track after rejoining.
As such, the entire incident was nothing short of a racing incident, and George Russell’s outburst was irrelevant. The German asserted that the four-time champion’s move was typical of him, and he did not commit to anything out of the ordinary on track.
I think it was right that Verstappen didn’t get a penalty, He didn’t wriggle between them and let the other two pass nicely again, so that was OK. It was typical Max again.
Ralf Schumacher added.
Regardless of Ralf Schumacher’s comments, George Russell will continue to perform as he does on the track, as it has helped him improve results. The Briton isn’t looking to make amends to his ways anytime soon, and Schumacher’s words certainly won’t facilitate a change within the former. If anything, such moments are the very essence of Formula 1 and make the sport exciting at times, and do not need to be changed.
