Lewis Hamilton is unable to emerge as a dominant force on the F1 grid with Ferrari. The Briton was expected to contend for both championships with the Prancing Horse, but hasn’t even scored a podium finish in the first 14 races. Hamilton is also only P6 in the drivers’ standings at 109 points, which only worsens his image further. As such, amid such trying times for the 40-year-old, ex-F1 driver, Ralf Schumacher has provided a brutal verdict on the seven-time champion’s continuity in the sport.

Ferrari’s challenger in the 2025 season has been very troublesome. Even though Charles Leclerc seems to manage the quirks of the SF-25 much better, Lewis Hamilton is failing to do so. Because of this, the Briton is garnering a lot of worldwide hate. While the 40-year-old had previously asserted that he’s here to stay and continue racing for the Italian constructor, such degrading results might make him reconsider his stay.

Ralf Schumacher wasn’t mincing his words while berating Lewis Hamilton’s time at Ferrari. Many people still have faith in Hamilton and his capabilities to excel with the Scuderia if provided with the right car. However, Schumacher did not hesitate to claim that the 40-year-old was just unable to cope with the continued woes at Maranello.

Schumacher asserted that Lewis Hamilton wasn’t getting to grips with the SF-25 challenger. Even though Hamilton is giving it his all and trying to improve, he isn’t able to return to his winning ways. As such, the German brutally pointed out that the Briton couldn’t cope with the issues of the car as well as Leclerc was doing. Hence, it wouldn’t be surprising to witness the seven-time champion leave the sport earlier than expected in the wake of the consistent struggles.

He’s not really getting to grips with the car. He doesn’t really know how to cope with it.

Ralf Schumacher ‘trusts’ Lewis Hamilton to make tough decision

Lewis Hamilton has been in Formula 1 since the 2007 season and is pushing 41 years of age. Hamilton still has a contract with Ferrari, which is good enough until the end of the 2026 season. The seven-time champion is likely looking to extend his contract further and not lose hope in the team so quickly. However, Ralf Schumacher firmly believes that it might finally be time for the Briton to hang up the racing suit.

Ralf Schumacher asserted that he trusted Lewis Hamilton and his ability to give up and leave racing when the time is right. The reason is that his time at Ferrari was an extremely bitter disappointment, which he wouldn’t want to keep going through. Schumacher even pointed out that the 40-year-old was unable to get out of the performance slump and start scoring better results.

I trust him to be able to do it and to do it. Because this is such a bitter disappointment, and he doesn’t know what to do.

Ralf Schumacher noted

The 2025 season would definitely be one to forget for Lewis Hamilton. The Briton has already shifted his focus to the upcoming season and winning then. However, for now, the 40-year-old will have to hope to score better in the latter half of the year and end the season on the best possible note. For now, Hamilton can get away from the sport and enjoy the summer break.
