Esteban Ocon will leave Alpine immediately by the end of the 2024 season. Hence, this opens up one vacancy on the team with uncertainty over Pierre Gasly‘s contract. Over this vacancy, Alpine’s WEC driver Mick Schumacher has been considered the prime candidate. However, sacked Haas boss Guenther Steiner was recently heard speaking ill of Schumacher’s chances at Alpine.

Mick Schumacher‘s uncle Ralf Schumacher has since responded to Guenther Steiner‘s comments regarding the matter. Ralf labeled Steiner as a ‘good friend’ and mentioned that he didn’t understand such senseless comments from him. Additionally, the 48-year-old reckoned that the former Haas boss was against Schumacher Jr’s entry with Alpine.

Our good friend Guenther Steiner: I don’t understand these senseless sideswipes. I’m slowly getting the feeling that he wants to prevent it [Mick returning to F1].
Ralf Schumacher told f1-insider.com.

Apart from this, Ralf Schumacher pointed out the contingencies of Mick Schumacher’s seat at Alpine. The German highlighted that if the 25-year-old was to perform better than expected, this would put Guenther Steiner in a negative light. Subsequently, the 48-year-old took a shot at Steiner’s situation of being ousted from the Haas F1 team and questioned why the team was performing better now after the Italian’s exit.

What would happen if Mick performed well in a possible return to Formula 1 – then Steiner would not be in a good light. Perhaps Mr Steiner should think about why the team is better now?
Ralf Schumacher added.

No more ‘joint appearances’ between Ralf Schumacher and Guenther Steiner

Ralf Schumacher didn’t stop only at the comments. Mick’s uncle wholeheartedly supported and trusted the young one over his capabilities to perform in Formula 1. The German didn’t hesitate to further call out Steiner over his irritable comments.

The 48-year-old declared that he would no longer make up joint appearances with the Italian over television. Additionally, Schumacher recalled the Bahrain GP where he ‘subordinated’ himself for the common cause and stood alongside the sacked Haas boss. However, the German was ‘consistent’ in his claims of never being seen again with the 59-year-old.

RTL knows my opinion, and so does Mr Steiner. There will be no more joint appearances in front of the camera, In Bahrain I still subordinated myself to the common cause, but now that is no longer possible. I am consistent in this regard.
Ralf Schumacher told RTL.

Hence, this showcases that Mick Schumacher has a great chance of landing an F1 seat with Alpine due to the support. Schumacher Jr. wasn’t provided with the greatest of opportunities to perform back in his term with Haas. As a result, a comeback with Alpine might just be the chance that the 25-year-old requires to start performing better at the pinnacle of motorsport.
