Daniel Ricciardo has had a dismal start to the 2024 F1 season. The Australian driver has failed to match expectations for RB in the first four races. The Red Bull sister team will be bringing a new chassis for the 8-time race winner for the Chinese GP. Now, RB Sporting Director Alan Permane has mentioned the real reason for bring a new car.
Previously, Daniel Ricciardo claimed that a new chassis could give him a peace of mind amidst his recent struggles. The 34-year-old had mentioned that a different cars led to different results during his McLaren days. However, Alan Permane made it clear that this was highly unlikely, as a new chassis was not a performance differentiator.
The reason I say it’s ever so unlikely is because it really is. It’s not a performance differentiator.Alan Permane said, as reported by RacingNews365
Permane claimed that it was more of a happy accident that the Italian team had a chassis ready for the Chinese GP. Moreover, the RB Sporting Director affirmed that it made sense to give the car to Daniel Ricciardo instead of Yuki Tsunoda. As the Japanese driver had consistently outperformed his Australian counterpart this year. Nevertheless, Alan Permane asserted that the new chassis was not being brought for Ricciardo’s underwhelming results.
It’s a happy accident that we have one coming, and it doesn’t make sense to give it to Yuki [Tsunoda] – it makes sense to give it to Daniel, but we’re not bringing a new chassis because of his issues.Alan Permane affirmed
Alan Permane claims Daniel Ricciardo ‘got it wrong’ at the Japanese GP
Ricciardo had a poor weekend in Suzuka. The Australian driver was out in Q1 due to violating track limits and ended up crashing out on the first lap. Recently, Dr. Helmut Marko claimed that Daniel Ricciardo had taken a cautious approach during the race start. On the other hand, Yuki Tsunoda scored his first points on his home track in F1.
Alan Permane claimed that Ricciardo got it wrong during Qualifying at the Japanese GP. The RB Sporting Director mentioned that the Australian driver would have had a great weekend if he had not violated track limits. Permane pointed out that Daniel Ricciardo could’ve outperformed the Haas cars and scored some crucial points for the team if he had a good run on Saturday.
He [Daniel Ricciardo] got it wrong, but had he not strayed outside the white line in qualifying he would have had a great weekend… He certainly had the race pace to beat the Haas’ as well and get points.
Alan Permane concluded
Daniel Ricciardo is in dire need to bounce back from a string of poor results this season. The 8-time race winner must score some points in the coming races and outperform Tsunoda to secure his future in F1. As such, fans would hope that the new RB chassis does help out the Australian driver during the Chinese GP in just over a week’s time.
