F1 returns this weekend with its 19th race of the 2024 season in Austin, USA. Moreover, it’s an exciting time for the young Red Bull talent Liam Lawson. The New Zealander has been given a chance to race for RB after the team decided to part ways with Daniel Ricciardo. For Lawson, the upcoming races are crucial, as his future with the team hinges on his performances. It’s a golden opportunity for him to prove himself and potentially secure a long-term spot in Formula 1.

Last year, Liam Lawson got a shot to team up with Yuki Tsunoda at AlphaTauri when Daniel Ricciardo incurred an injury at the Dutch GP. Red Bull decided to give Lawson the chance, and he made a big impression with his performances. His drives were so impressive that Helmut Marko, Red Bull’s advisor, assured that Lawson would get another opportunity in the future.

The 22-year-old has got that chance now and carries the responsibility to match his strong form from last year. Praising the New Zealanders’ composure, RB CEO Peter Bayer emphasized the importance of patience as a valuable quality for young drivers like Lawson.

It’s about growing as a young man, learning that patience can be a quality, even if we don’t like it.

Peter Bayer told RacingNews365

After being sidelined for almost a year, Lawson is determined to seize the RB opportunity. His commitment to the sport shows his drive to secure his place and avoid being replaced once again. Bayer admires this trait of Lawson. The latter understands the responsibility he has and is thus, taking it very seriously.

The 22-year-old isn’t getting distracted or led in the wrong direction. His performance against Tsunoda in the final six races could be crucial in determining if he’s ready to step up alongside Max Verstappen in the main Red Bull team.

He’s doing all the right things, and that’s great for us to see that you have a young man who’s taking this responsibility extremely seriously and he’s not misguided.

Peter Bayer said

Liam Lawson’s strength has improved compared to last year

Formula 1 drivers require significant strength and muscle mass to control their cars effectively. They experience intense G-forces, especially during high-speed corners, braking, and acceleration, which demand a lot of physical strength.

Last year, Lawson was very new to the sport and lacked the muscle power needed to drive an F1 car. However, Peter Bayer reveals that the 22-year-old has dedicated himself to training in the gym. This has massively helped him build significant muscle mass and strength.

We had a report from his trainer, that he has done a tremendous job this year in building up muscle strength, which he didn’t have last year. So he’s significantly stronger now.

Peter Bayer stated.

The New Zealander is doing everything to be in F1 by performing well in the last six races. Lawson knows he first needs to prove he can outperform Yuki Tsunoda to secure a spot at Red Bull for 2025. The final six races are crucial, as they will play a significant role in Red Bull’s decision about the lineup for the main team next year.
