Despite finishing in second place, Red Bull driver Max Verstappen looked powerless during the Dutch Grand Prix. Verstappen’s RB20 was no match against McLaren’s MCL38, which claimed the win with a commanding 22-second lead.
Max Verstappen‘s future has been a bubbling topic of discussion throughout the 2024 season. While some claim that the Dutchman seeks a move away from the Milton-Keynes-based team, others boast about his loyalty to the squad.
The Red Bull team principal Christian Horner shared his thoughts on the matter after the team’s mediocre result at the Dutch GP. The three-time world champion is currently on a contract with Red Bull until the end of 2028.
Look, 28 is a long way away. It’s down to us to provide a race-winning car. Will you be here in ’28? You know. 2025… every contract has a performance element in it. We’re not going to talk about what those elements are, but as long as we provide a competitive car, we know what the situation is.Christian Horner via motorsportweek
Christian Horner vouched for the team’s dedication to providing Verstappen with a race-winning car for the ongoing campaign and the future years. Horner also indicated that the 26-year-old might be viable to leave if he feels incompetent while racing for Red Bull.
Max Verstappen’s take on recent issues with Red Bull’s RB20
Red Bull has been a sheerly dominant force ever since the start of the ongoing ground-effect era. However, the Milton-Keynes-based squad has been fairly vulnerable, losing out to its rivals multiple times this campaign.
It just seems like we are too slow but also quite bad on deg(redation) at the moment, so that’s a bit weird because I think the last few years normally we’ve been quite good on that. So something has been going wrong lately with the car that we need to understand and we need to of course quickly try to improve.Max Verstappen via Pit Debrief
Max Verstappen failed to pinpoint a singular issue with RB20 after securing P2 at Zandvoort. He claimed that tire wear and pace have been two of the most cardinal drawbacks of the Milton-Keynes outfit over the past few races.
Despite not winning the last five races, Verstappen leads the 2024 title race with a 70-point lead. He will hope for his team to make the required fixes on the RB20, seeking to bounce back next week at the iconic Autodromo Nazionale Monza racing circuit.
