Red Bull has finally promoted Liam Lawson to replace Sergio Perez for 2025. The 22-year-old will be partnering four-time world champion Max Verstappen next year. Now, team boss Christian Horner has admitted that Lawson faces a stiff challenge against the Dutch driver.
2025 will be the first full season for Liam Lawson. Previously, the Kiwi driver has had two small stints at VCARB in 2023 and 2024. Horner asserted that partnering someone like Max Verstappen who is undoubtedly an all-time great would be no easy feat for the 22-year-old.
However, Christian Horner was optimistic over Lawson’s prospects. The Red Bull team boss insisted that the Kiwi driver will be able to rise to the challenge and bring in desired results for Milton Keynes. Horner has made it clear that he does not want to see a 280-point deficit between its two drivers.
Christian Horner praises ‘real racer’ Liam Lawson
Horner spoke highly of Lawson’s two stints at VCARB. The Briton claimed that Liam Lawson’s past results not only show his capabilities but even prove that he is a real racer. Christian Horner reckoned that the 22-year-old was ready to even battle it out against the best with the aim of coming out on top.
Liam Lawson will be looking forward to making his debut for Milton Keynes next season. The Kiwi driver would be pushing himself over the winter to start 2025 in the best way possible. However, it remains to be seen how things pan out for Lawson against Verstappen at Red Bull.
