Sergio Perez has performed in an extremely dissatisfactory manner in the 2024 season. Max Verstappen has maintained the championship lead amidst Red Bull struggles while Perez fell down to P8 in the drivers’ standings. As a result, the Mexican was rumored to be ousted from the team due to failing results. However, the 34-year-old is set to continue with the team as he also ditched two other team offers.

Sergio Perez finished P2 in the standings in the previous season but failed to amass any race wins this season. Regardless, the Mexican claimed that he had two opportunities to change teams despite negative results. However, Perez noted that he loved the challenge at Red Bull against the dominant Max Verstappen in terms of pace and performance.

I had an opportunity, two opportunities, to change teams. When I looked at it, I thought, I really love the challenge I have at Red Bull. It’s a massive challenge being Max’s teammate. It’s a challenge that basically trains you for all of it.

Sergio Perez told GQ.com.

Red Bull had already discussed Sergio Perez’s future at Red Bull and gave him another chance to end this season despite landing a multi-year contract extension. Perez claimed that he wanted to spend the last part of his career at the very top. The Mexican driver liked the ‘pressure’ of having to perform well over all the race weekends.

Sergio Perez claimed ‘90%’ of the grid would ‘love’ to have his seat at Red Bull

Red Bull’s dominant performance meant that the two seats were highly coveted and were reserved for the best. Amidst Sergio Perez’s failing performances, multiple drivers were rumored to be considered for the second seat in the team. However, Perez was aware of this fact and believed that over 90% of the present grid would love to fill in the empty seat.

At the end of the day, when you go through a difficult period, there is a lot of talk. But ultimately, there is 90 percent of the grid who would have loved to have my career.

Sergio Perez noted.

Certainly, Sergio Perez will have to start showcasing substantially better results in the 2024 season to continue with the team. Red Bull has multiple options on their hands to replace the Mexican in the coming season. Hence, the 34-year-old must buckle up and give it his all during the last six races this season
