Recently, Red Bull announced that it would be parting ways with Sergio Perez amidst an underwhelming run of performances. This caused multiple experts to pool in and discuss how the Austrian giant made the right decision. However, Perez’s father, Antonio Perez was not lit up by the announcement and claimed that the best was yet to come for his son.

Sergio Perez joined Red Bull in 2021 after being sacked by Racing Point (now Aston Martin). He soon appeared as a messiah for the Austrian giant after years of driver troubles as he helped the team’s star driver Max Verstappen in his pursuit of his maiden championship.

On the other hand, his performances began declining at the later end of the 2023 season. This sparked up a debate about whether Perez was the right driver for Red Bull anymore as rivals started closing up. Furthermore, the torrid performances ramped up this year as the Mexican trundled in the midfield and struggled to score points, while his teammate bagged his fourth consecutive world championship.

This tied Red Bull’s hands as they called off the contract with the 34-year-old. However, Antonio Perez asserted that his son’s career had been full of struggles and that the best of the Mexican is yet to come.

If you ask me what has been the most difficult race for Checo Perez, it was not this last one that he went through or today’s, it was at the age of twelve when he was kicked out of the Karting here in Mexico, then he was kicked out of McLaren, then he was kicked out of Racing Point, now he is kicked out of Red Bull, the best of Checo Perez is yet to come.

Antonio Perez told Grupo Formula

As Perez has now moved out of the reigns of F1, he is expected to take a break from racing. With no options available from other teams, the ex-Red Bull driver is expected to call it a day soon.

On the other hand, the 34-year-old has not officially retired from racing and will be on the hunt to find a drive soon. His massive personality in South America might aid his cause as he brings in a hoard of sponsors that would help cover his salary for any team.

However, Perez’s father is not keen on the Mexican continue on racing. He does not expect Checo to sign a contract in a different racing series and leave his F1 roots, reckoning the finale in Abu Dhabi to be his final race ever.

I’m sure that’s Checo Pérez. There’s no Indycar anymore, there’s no NASCAR anymore, there’s no Le Mans anymore. I’m 100% sure of this. That’s why I tell you, if there’s no big team, no big offer for Checo Pérez, this was his last race.

Thus, Liam Lawson would now have to impress Horner & Co. in his first year with Red Bull. Otherwise, the Kiwi would have to face the impatient sword of Helmut Marko that Perez’s predecessors have already tackled.
