Sergio Perez has been racing alongside Max Verstappen since the start of the 2021 F1 season. He has always proved second best against the Dutchman, especially during the ongoing campaign where the Mexican has been nowhere near the latter.

Sergio Perez has managed to amass only 151 points in comparison to Max Verstappen‘s 393 so far. In light of this and the overall time that Perez has spent as Verstappen’s teammate, he feels that it is incredibly tough to race alongside the 27-year-old.

During the ongoing season, Verstappen is on course to amass a fourth consecutive F1 world championship.

I think I have been very lucky, the truth is that I have had very good teammates from whom I have learned a lot. Max is definitely the biggest challenge I have ever had. It is an incredible challenge to be his partner.

Looking at the reaction of the six-time Grand Prix winner, he has showered huge praise on Verstappen. The 27-year-old has been on a massive rise since 2022 and there haven’t been many races in which he has come out second best. It is only this year, that he faced a slight slump in performance because of the lackluster output of the RB20.

Red Bull admits to ‘needing’ Sergio Perez in the Constructors fight

While Perez has applauded Verstappen, the former has not really pulled his weight this year, as indicated above. Red Bull has fallen to third place in the Constructors Championship because of him and ahead of the remaining three races, Christian Horner has admitted that his team desperately needs the former to perform.

But our focus is very much still on the Constructors’ Championship as well. And we need Sergio to be up there scoring in these last races or the last three races if we were to have any chance of challenging either Ferrari or McLaren.

After 21 rounds, Red Bull has so far managed to amass 544 points in comparison to Ferrari’s 557 and the Woking-based McLaren’s 593. With only three races remaining, the Milton-Keynes-based outfit needs its drivers as well as a bit of luck to topple the leaders. Keeping in view everything that has been discussed, all the events from Las Vegas onwards could turn out to be extremely fierce between the top three teams.
