Sergio Perez claims Red Bull ‘definitely in the mix’ to clinch pole position at Azerbaijan GP
Sergio Perez felt optimistic about Red Bull's chances in securing pole position after a positive runs in FP1 and FP2.

Red Bull showed impressive performance during the Azerbaijan GP’s first practice session FP1 on Friday. Max Verstappen was the fastest, with Lewis Hamilton in second and Sergio Perez in third. This was one of Perez’s strongest Friday performances in months. He further improved in FP2, finishing as the second-fastest driver. The Mexican was confident for Saturday’s qualifying session and reckoned Red Bull can definitely be in the mix.
Sergio Perez mentioned that the team is moving in a right direction making good progress. He felt that Red Bull is improving the car bit by bit and its becoming drivable again as it was at the start of the year. However, there is a lot of work to be done, but Checo and even Max Verstappen found the results from the practice sessions as competitive and encouraging. The improvements they’ve seen so far looked promising and hopeful for the race in Baku.
I think we are heading in the right direction. We’re finding that we can put a little bit more together the car. It’s still a long way to go I think, but it’s promising what we’ve seen so far.Sergio Perez said, as reported by racer.com
Sergio Perez recognized the importance of continued improvement and not getting too caught up in the results from practice sessions. He highlighted the need for ongoing progress to remain competitive. Perez was optimistic that, with these improvements, Red Bull has a strong chance of being competitive in qualifying and potentially securing pole position for Sunday’s race.

Sergio Perez states the mood is very positive for the Azerbaijan GP
Sergio Perez after the Friday outings stated that the mood is very positive within Red Bull. Although the Monza race was a challenging weekend for them, he believed that even tough situations can lead to good outcomes. He explained that the Monza issues highlighted key problems with the car, which had been a persistent struggle.
I think [the mood] is pretty positive. Monza was a tough weekend for us, but I think out of every negative comes a positive, and the negativity of that weekend exposed some key areas of the car that we’ve been grappling with for some time.Sergio Perez stated.
Certainly, Sergio Perez reckoned the Italian GP setback was important for the team to know where they lacked. It also helped them identify and address key areas needing improvement. This, in turn, has contributed to a more hopeful outlook for the Azerbaijan GP.
