Red Bull finally sacked Sergio Perez after months of uncertainty over his future. Liam Lawson will replace the Mexican driver to race alongside Max Verstappen this season. Now, Checo has highlighted the reason why he wouldn’t want to be in place of his successor.

2025 will be the first full F1 season for Liam Lawson. The Kiwi driver has raced a total of eleven races in the sport over a span of two years. The 22-year-old’s career has taken a similar trajectory to Alex Albon who also competed his first full campaign with Red Bull.

It’s an incredible challenge. I knew what I signed for when I came here. It’s an incredible challenge that people should not underestimate the level of experience, the level of capacity, of mental strength that you need to cope with the extreme challenge.

Sergio Perez might be relieved to be done with the Red Bull chapter of his career. Though, Checo will not be racing in F1 this year, he could potentially stay on the sidelines for a return in 2026. It remains to be seen if Perez potentially decides to bid farewell to the sport entirely and race in a series like IndyCar in the near future.
