Formula 1 heads to the Spanish GP this weekend for the tenth race of the season. The Barcelona circuit is one of the most challenging tracks for cars with a blend of high and medium speed corners. This race could define Max Verstappen and Red Bull’s title defense this season.
Red Bull has faced stiff competition in the past few races. Milton Keynes’ prospects have been hampered by the kerb issues with the RB20. Max Verstappen has fought tooth and nail for race victories in recent rounds. While McLaren and Ferrari have both won races this season, Mercedes showed that it could also be in the mix during the Canadian GP.
Certainly, Max Verstappen would be looking to gain an advantage against the rest of the grid this weekend. As the Barcelona weekend could set the done for the European leg of the season. As such, the Spanish GP could make or break Red Bull’s 2024 campaign.
Barcelona to show Red Bull’s place in the pecking order
The Spanish GP is the first race of the European leg with a string of conventional circuits to follow. F1 had been racing on more difficult tracks such as Monaco and Montreal with bumps on the tarmac which affected Red Bull. However, the Barcelona would highlight the true competitive picture for Max Verstappen’s team.
Usually, Red Bull Racing has done well at the circuit. Milton Keynes has always led the grid in terms of chassis performance which allowed it to succeed at the Spanish GP. Max Verstappen’s team would be hoping to continue the trend this weekend. However, if the Dutch driver fails to emerge victorious in the race, alarm bells might start ringing within the Austrian team.
Milton Keynes has been working extensively on upgrades to fix its kerb issues. However, if the team finds itself struggling in Barcelona, it could bring up further problems. This could risk derailing Red Bull’s development plan and put the team on the back foot. On the other hand, if Max Verstappen comfortably wins the race, the Austrian team would be on course to cover up its lost points in the upcoming races with ease.
Certainly, Max Verstappen and Red Bull need to have a strong Spanish GP. The reigning world champions would be hoping to make up lost ground on conventional circuits and re-establish its lead in the standings. Fans would be looking forward to seeing how things pan out for Verstappen and the Austrian team.
