The FIA was the center of multiple major controversies throughout the 2024 season. Many individuals called out the body’s President Mohammed Ben Sulayem and demanded him to leave his position. Now, reports suggest that F1 Academy’s managing director, Susie Wolff, is exploring her options to challenge Ben Sulayem for the presidency.
Mohammed Ben Sulayem previously made some controversial remarks while talking about the rule changes in Formula 1. Susie Wolff isn’t exactly free of controversies either as she was alleged of a ‘conflict of interest’ alongside her husband Toto Wolff. Regardless, with the FIA’s recent tumultuous state, a change in presidency might not be unwarranted.
The FIA presidential elections are upcoming in December later this year. According to Autosprint, Wolff is now allegedly looking into her options to run for the election race against Ben Sulayem. The Emirati’s recent debatable rule changes might set him up for failure against the 42-year-old. The Briton would also be the first female to ever lead the governing body if she is elected.

Mohammed Ben Sulayem ‘happy’ to contest Susie Wolff for FIA President role
Mohammed Ben Sulayem, who succeeded Jean Todt as FIA president in 2021, has expressed his openness to competition in the upcoming election. Ben Sulayem put forth his willingness to fight against another candidate for the presidential position of the governing body. The Emirati highlighted that the sport was a democracy and everyone had equal rights to contest for the role.

If there’s anyone who wants to have a [presidential] race with me, [I would be] more than happy. We talked about democracy. It’s democracy all the time, not part of the time, so I’m more than happy.
Mohammed Ben Sulayem told Autosport
Susie Wolff seems like a favorable candidate for the presidential position, particularly due to FIA’s recent controversies. Multiple individuals would also support the idea of welcoming a female presence in the governing body. However, the FIA is known to be male-dominated and might cause trouble to Wolff in her pursuit to win the elections.
