The Belgian GP ended with Lewis Hamilton as the race winner. Hamilton finished the race in second position behind George Russell, however after a few hours it was found out the Russell’s car was underweight and of this he was disqualified. This situation created a whole lot of drama around the paddock. Russell drove exceptionally well at Spa however unexpected certainties disrupted his race. Despite his impressive drive, many F1 pundits declared Lewis Hamilton as the driver of the day and Tom Clarkson was one of them.

Tom Clarkson mentioned the Belgian GP was thrilling and both George Russell and Lewis Hamilton drove exceptionally. However, Clarkson chose Hamilton as his driver of the day, who reclaimed victory at the Belgian GP. He mentioned that while Russell’s performance was impressive, the 39-year-old’s drive stood out to him. The one-stop strategy used by the 26-year-old was a big reason for his result. Clarkson felt the seven-time-world champion’s performance was better given the circumstances.

I'm gonna say Hamilton because, of course George was brilliant but I think it was a punt that one-stop.

Tom Clarkson praised the 39-year-old for his excellent driving, especially noting his impressive start to the race. Hamilton had a strong beginning and was engaged in a close battle with Sergio Perez as they raced towards the first turn. The 45-year-old highlighted how Hamilton’s skillful driving during this crucial part of the race made him stand out.

Clarkson mentioned that while Hamilton was passing through the Eau Rouge, he was impressed seeing his handling skill. Despite being nearly 40, Hamilton showed a lot of energy and determination. He mentioned, in the third lap of the race the Briton made a great move on Charles Leclerc which was very impressive. This experience and enthusiasm of Hamilton at this age gave Clarkson another confirmation to choose him as the driver of the day.

Eau Rouge, you know he's nearly 40 and he is so feisty still and then he passes Leclerc on lap three.

Further, Clarkson mentioned the Briton was utterly brilliant at the beginning of the race. His strong start from P4 was particularly very impressive as he overtook the drivers ahead of him. Tom Clarkson even believed that Hamilton had the race in his pockets at that point because of how well he was driving. But as Mercedes decided to go for a one-stop strategy with Russell, he eventually finished first.

He's utterly brilliant in those opening stages, and I thought he had won the race at that point.

Certainly, Tom Clarkson mentioned that despite George Russell crossing the checkered flag first. Lewis Hamilton was the driver to be appreciated at the Belgian GP. Hamilton impressed Clarkson and viewers greatly and fans were delighted to see the first 1-2 finish of the season for Mercedes. However, Russell’s disqualification prevented that from happening.
