Yuki Tsunoda has deemed a highly successful performance in the 2024 season as compared to Daniel Ricciardo. The Japanese driver has continued to outperform his Australian counterpart down the season. However, he still isn’t being considered for a move up the Red Bull family. Upon this, Dutch driver Tom Coronel has pointed out some negative points about Tsunoda.
Tom Coronel noted that Yuki Tsunoda had quickly become one of the former’s favorites in Formula 1. However, Coronel didn’t hesitate to note that Tsunoda wasn’t ‘ripe for the top’ due to being childish. But if the 24-year-old were to present himself differently, he would’ve been considered for a seat at Red Bull much longer back.
Yuki has become one of my favorites. I don't think he is ripe for the top, he seems a bit childish every now and then, if he had presented himself in a slightly different way, he had long been in a Red Bull.Tom Coronel told Formule1.nl
Regardless, Coronel believed that Yuki Tsunoda didn’t hesitate to take risks while out on the track. Additionally, the Dutchman pointed out that Tsunoda was a flamboyant driver with fire inside him. Hence, the Japanese driver sometimes put forth performances that made the 52-year-old want such performances from other drivers on the track.
He dares to take risks. Yuki is a flamboyant driver, there is fire in it. He shows things that I occasionally think: Hoppa! We want to see that from Formula 1 drivers!Tom Coronel added
Tom Coronel claims Yuki Tsunoda ‘fights’ in the car and ‘squeezes’ it around the corners
Yuki Tsunoda has some unique skill sets that set him apart from the rest of the drivers on the grid. Tom Coronel highlighted them to be his ability to fight in the car. Additionally, the way that Tsunoda ‘squeezed’ the challenger around the corner was pretty cool. Hence, the Japanese driver drove around more like a fighter with the kill factor.
You always see Yuki fighting in the car. He squeezes the car around the corner in the handle, which I think is cool. There are plenty of riders who look like Knight Rider, very smooth. But when I see him driving, I think: that is a fighter, someone with the kill factor that goes for it.Tom Coronel noted
However, despite the upturning performances from Tsunoda, the Red Bull family declines to move him up the hierarchy. Hence, the 24-year-old was rumored to be considering a move to the Haas F1 team. Regardless, the Japanese driver put an end to these claims and signed an extension with RB.
