Lewis Hamilton is one of the biggest names in the sporting world. It is thus no surprise that millions of fans were shocked to hear the news of the Briton’s switch to Scuderia Ferrari. However, it seems that too many expectations are being laid on the 40-year-old’s new team.

Hamilton is joining Ferrari after a string of underwhelming seasons with Mercedes. The seven-time world had grown frustrated and needed a change of environment. Red Bull team boss Christian Horner even reckoned that the Italian team might allow for the British driver’s resurgence in Formula 1.

Scuderia Ferrari showed impressive progress in the latter half of 2024. Many expect the Prancing Horse to be in the battle for the world title with Lewis Hamilton. Though, putting such targets on the back of this partnership might create tensions in the coming weeks.

No guarantee on Lewis Hamilton’s title prospects at Ferrari

The Italian team did finish second in the standings last season. However, this happened due to Red Bull’s mid-season turmoil. Realistically, Ferrari might only be the third fastest at least at the start of the upcoming season, something than fans have seemingly ignored.

Lewis Hamilton’s switch to the Scuderia is indeed a dream come true. Though, this alone doesn’t guarantee any success for this new union. Rather, it is likely that it will take a few weeks for the Briton to get accustomed to the culture at Maranello under the leadership of Fred Vasseur.

The seven-time world champion performs at his best when he feels comfortable with the team. As such, if Hamilton feels isolated compared to Charles Leclerc, he could get frustrated yet again. Moreover, Ferrari is known to have a history of ruining relationships with world champions, such as Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel.

The mantra for Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari should be simple. Both parties must ignore the noise from fans and the media. Instead, realistic targets should be set to ensure that they stick to their predefined plan. Hamilton would be aware that 2026 is the actual season where he will have the best chance at the title. Thus, the Briton might focus more on building a bond with the Scuderia this year.
