The 2024 season was filled with extremely controversial situations amongst multiple teams and drivers. The campaign peaked in excitement and competition due to these very situations. However, quite a few big names also had to leave the sport due to such problems. As a result, amidst the never-ending controversies, Mercedes boss Toto Wolff took a dig at the FIA for their antics.
Toto Wolff has continued to call out the sport and the drivers during the controversial situations. Wolff previously suggested the drivers and the Grand Prix Drivers’ Association (GPDA) to handle the matters behind closed doors with the FIA. Following this, Wolff also made a hilarious statement regarding the issues with this year’s campaign.
Wolff reckoned that there were still some positives in the controversy-filled season. The 53-year-old joked that with all the ongoing issues, Formula 1 could start a reality show. Moreover, the Austrian warned the stakeholders to protect the ‘holy grail’ by taking responsibility and accountability. However, recent intrications did not showcase this from the stakeholders.
Toto Wolff asserts ‘rationality needs to win’ amidst such problems in Formula 1
The FIA had to back down on the rule of disallowing drivers to use abusive language on the team radio after GPDA’s official statement against the same. Despite the governing body’s attempts to improve the sport, they failed at doing so in an uncontroversial manner. Toto Wolff believed that during such polarising and conflicting situations, rationality in decision-making needed to prevail. He made it very clear that current conditions did not showcase such a situation at all in Formula 1.
2024 will go down in history as one of the most interesting and competitive campaigns in Formula 1. Moreover, the issues caused in this season are likely to witness a ripple effect in the coming years as the various problems haven’t been completely fixed yet.
