- Kimi Antonelli crashed his $245k Mercedes-AMG GT 63 PRO shortly after receiving it, but was unharmed.
- Toto Wolff expressed relief that no one was injured in the incident and emphasized the importance of caution.
- Antonelli faces potential license revocation for speeding at 180 kph in a 70 kph zone following the crash.
Kimi Antonelli‘s 2026 season has not started on the best possible note. The Silver Arrow was gifted an exclusive Mercedes-AMG GT 63 PRO Motorsport Collectors’ Edition company car, valued at approximately $245k. However, days into owning the car, he crashed it somewhere in Italy, but was unscathed from the crash. Now, Toto Wolff opens up on the incident and what it could mean for his 2026 season.
Kimi Antonelli had just received the exclusive car and was enjoying it around the Italian roads of his hometown. The 19-year-old crashed into the guardrail, but luckily did not injure anyone else in the crash. Toto Wolff and Co. were glad that Antonelli did not suffer from major consequences of the collision, just days before the first pre-season test of the 2025 season.
Now, Toto Wolff can joke about it as the matter is behind him, and Kimi Antonelli wasn’t injured in the crash. Wolff noted that Antonelli was definitely more embarrassed than anyone else, which was the most important factor. The youngster needed to realise his mistake and be more cautious, and not put himself in life-threatening situations on the local roads.
Toto Wolff recalled that he was concerned about Kimi Antonelli or anyone else being injured in the crash, which thankfully wasn’t the case. However, Wolff accepted that it was a shame that the exclusive AMG GT 63 PRO was damaged a lot following the crash. Ultimately, the Austrian isn’t much worried about the car, as it was just a piece of machinery, but it was a shame that the best AMG car got damaged.
I think he’s more embarrassed than anyone else and that’s the most important thing, And I immediately wondered if anyone was injured, if he hurt himself, or God forbid, if anyone else was hurt. No, that wasn’t the case. It’s a shame about the great car, but in the end, it was just a car, even if it is the best AMG.

Kimi Antonelli risks losing his car license following the crash
Though Kimi Antonelli drives the world’s fastest single-seater challengers, he cannot do so on local roads. Antonelli might not feel the thrill of driving a regular car under the speed limit, but his crash proved that the limits are there for a reason. Reportedly, the Italian was driving at speeds of around 180 kph (112mph) in a 70 kph (43mph) zone. Apart from this, his license could be revoked if he is found guilty of the charges pressed against him following the accident.

According to GPBlog, Kimi Antonelli’s license was taken away by the police at the scene to investigate the matter. The Italian laws deal with overspeeders very harshly, and Antonelli cannot use his F1 card to get out of this one. If the case is pursued, the Italian driver will lose his road license for around 6 to 12 months. Mercedes has not confirmed the situation as they continue to participate in the pre-season test in Bahrain alongside other rivals.
The 2026 season has just begun, and Kimi Antonelli could be facing flak from the F1 community. However, it is important to note that everyone makes mistakes, and Antonelli is just 19 years old. As such, it is understandable that the youngster wanted to flex his exclusive Mercedes car and crashed in the process of driving it fast. For now, the media awaits further information in the matter, and the Italian will learn an important life lesson from the crash and hope to never be involved in something like this ever again.
