Toto Wolff has played down rumors of reigning world champion, Max Verstappen joining Mercedes in 2025. His team is currently without a driver for the 2025 season after the announcement of Lewis Hamilton‘s departure to Ferrari.

Mercedes has had a poor start to the 2024 season and has failed to score even a single podium in the first eight races. The outfit is the fourth fastest on the grid behind Red Bull, Ferrari, and McLaren.

Max will not get into a car that is not competitive and at the moment we are not competitive enough to attract a world champion. But we have to see how the next few months go.
Toto Wolff said in response to the rumors.

Mercedes is on a mission to bring better upgrades to the W15 in an attempt to build more pace to compete with the likes of Red Bull, McLaren, and Ferrari. But, as things stand, Wolff and Co. have a long way to go if they want to catch up to rival teams.

In qualifying, he was only a few hundredths of a second off ending up third on the grid. But, we are wanting to continue in that direction. We've go some smaller updates - we are certainly going to have front wing 2 on both cars.
Andrew Shovlin said with respect to the upgrades in W15

Shovlin confirmed that Mercedes will be using its updated front wing on both of its cars during the Canadian GP. In Monaco, only George Russell was running the second front wing. The wing has benefited Mercedes, as Russell narrowly missed out on P3 during qualifying by a few hundredths of a second.

As the Canadian GP approaches, Mercedes will try to analyze their performance in the Monaco GP better to maximize their output in Montreal. The Brackley-based team desperately needs a win if they wish to stay in the title race.
