Christian Horner has remained in the F1 news despite his disappointing Red Bull exit almost over a year ago. The Briton hadn’t commented much about his future goals, but he did mention that he had unfinished business from the sport. Now, amid rumors of Horner eyeing to purchase a stake in Alpine’s investors, Otro Capital, Toto Wolff has made a wildcard appearance in the discussions.
Alpine’s newly appointed team principal Flavio Briatore has always had good relations with Christian Horner. Despite the Briton’s problematic personal life, Briatore wasn’t against the idea of him joining Alpine in the near future. However, Toto Wolff is now reportedly looking at his options to purchase a stake in Otro Capital’s 24% stake in Alpine.
Not only Toto Wolff, but Mercedes is also interested in purchasing these stakes alongside their F1 team principal. Certainly, this would mean Alpine and Otro Capital would have to then decide between Wolff and Christian Horner. The two team principals have been arch-nemesis on the F1 paddock over the years, and this stake purchase shenanigans could potentially restart their previous rivalry.
Christian Horner‘s shot at purchasing Otro Capital’s stake could only be supported by Flavio Briatore, who is a crucial element at Alpine. But, Mercedes is supplying power units to the French constructor in Formula 1, which might make them more inclined towards Brackley and Toto Wolff. A Mercedes spokesperson loosely confirmed that the German carmaker was keeping a close eye on the situation, and definitely did not deny the possibility.
Mercedes is a key strategic partner of Alpine and we are being kept apprised of the latest developments.

Alpine reveals their plans for the 2026 season of Formula 1 amid rumors
Alpine suffered from a disappointing 2025 season, as they finished plum last in the constructors’ championship. As such, after switching to Mercedes power units, the team expects much better performance under the new regulations in 2026. Amid the talks of Christian Horner and Toto Wolff, Alpine has clarified their priority for new season and their ambitions for the coming year.

An Alpine spokesperson has refused to fuel the speculations further by commenting on specific individuals and teams. They further asserted that these discussions remained between the stakeholders and individuals ready to invest, the constructor had no say in it. As such, Alpine’s primary focus is on the 2026 season and starting the new season on the right note.
We do not comment on any specific names or individuals. Any discussions are not a matter for the team; they’re between the stakeholders and parties expressing an interest. The primary focus is the immediate task at hand, which is the start of the racing season and seeing a sustained recovery of performance on track.
An Alpine spokesperson confirmed, as reported by RacingNews365.
For now, Toto Wolff has yet to comment on the speculations. However, they are definitely interesting and would shake things up for Christian Horner. If the former Red Bull leader plans to purchase a stake, now would be the best time. But on the other hand, it could be a tactic used by Otro Capital to push Horner into confirming the deal as even Horner hasn’t commented on the matter either.
